Hey all,
long time lurker, first time poster.
Seeing as the change logs indicate that manned mortar turrets potentially are in the next build of the game, is it possible to create a 'no fire' zone with the home zone function?

I just dont want to have a mortar blow the hell out of my people or turrets.

Just a thought, but it would allow some element of control if the turrets targeting is automated even with colonist interaction.

I don't think that's gonna be a possibility, because the changelog does state that Mortars are gonna be used for sieges by raiders. Making a no fire zone would just completely negate that threat.

Basically, what's going to stop people from covering their whole colony with a No-Fire zone?

I love the mindset of gamers. Given a new feature to help keep our people alive and make the game more realistic, the first thing we think of is a way to kill people with it

I think randolf is assuming that we'll have mortars of our own, in which case we'll want a no-fire zone to keep our own colonists from blowing up the base.

Obviously if both sides have mortars, any no-fire zone we set would be faction-specific and wouldn't apply to the raiders.

In Rimworld you can always pause and while paused give orders to your colonists , i think mortars should fire only once you indicate a spot.

Yes this is really if we get to use mortars (not the raiders) and also if they to work with auto targeting much like the turrets, adding a no fire zone just tells the colonists turret that it should not fire in that area.

If it all done via manual targeting then problem solved.

As of June the 19th, manual targeting with mortars is the case. Also bare in mind that raiders will also get mortars. Changelog
