New recruit entered map in an area I haven't discovered yet

Not sure if this is a new feature added in b18 or it if's a bug but I've never had it happen to me before. I got a request for someone being chased by pirates to join, I accepted and they entered on the other side of a mountain to me that I haven't dug through to yet, I can draft them but can't really do anything with them. I'm still playing the game and this is happening with more events, I've just had a caravan enter from that side and before the new recruit joined I had the new event "a large pack of wild deer are passing through" which the white arrow pointed to but I couldn't actually see them. This is defiantly new in b18 just not sure if it's intentional (to get me to dig and reveal all the entrances to the map) or not.

I experienced the same issue! Thankfully after a short tunneling excursion the area was revealed!
