Computer updated windows 10 whilst rimworld was open on main menu, I then updated my nvidia driver (to 398.11) and now the game crashes on startup. Reinstalled old nvidia driver (397.93) and verified game cache, also deleted all mods. Still no luck.

So just to update, have installed my previous nvidia driver, no luck, unsubscribed from all mods, uninstalled the game and reinstalled, still no luck. Only change is now the game closes itself without presenting a window saying it has crashed. Also, the crash occurs with the game window open with the black box containing three dots, just to state the exact point

Did you delete the config folder too ?

After that you can try to delete the regestry entry from Rimworld.
Open regedit (enter it at the windows search)
Search for "Ludeon"
After a while it will find an entry for "Ludeon Studios"
Delete the complete entry.

Hi,
I had deleted the config file too.
Just deleted the reistry entry, the file in the appdata folder and reinstalled the game, still no luck.
Although now when the game starts it seems to be off on resolution, two black bars appear down the sides like it isn't scaled properly.
Also no longer produces a crash file.
Possible issue with the graphics driver?
Included the most recent output log.
Thanks

It is prolly a combination with Windows update and graghics driver.
Since it work's before.

The log don't show any error or problems.
Since you speak about isn't scaled proberly, did you try another, smaller desktop resolution (1920x1080) ?

mungoman

changed the resolution and no joy.
went into windows update, uninstalled this update and it has started working again.

Don't forget to send a bill to Microsoft about your lost gaming time ! :-)
They need  to stop regular user as beta tester.
Luckly i got the pro version and delay any window's update by 30 days.
