So, I'm really enjoying 1.0.  I do wonder what the point of having visitors is though.  Oh, the ones that trade I certainly appreciate.  But the ones that don't?  They just come by and if we want we can go into raid mode and attack them.

I'd really like it if there were some way to socialize with them though.  Maybe a chat and recruit option?  Just be friends and maybe raise rep with their faction?  Give them gifts even.  I dunno, just something other than "Welcome to our lands, here's a free beatdown!"

Just to be clear, I think this is a small issue.  This is a fantastic game, and it seems to just keep getting better.

There is no point what so ever. Install the "Hospitality" mod if you want there to be a point. It is a great mod and one of the standard ones that everybody has, but still hasn't been integrated into the base game.

I've also wondered this.  I just assumed it was something from way back in the early days that never got fully implemented, or was there as an additional way to maybe capture some people.

It does seem out of place these days.

I always thought it was there to maybe trigger at the same time as something else. I had a manhunting boar kill one of the people and I got some free stuff once.

I never got how pawns in the game could have such insanely bad reactions to such mundane things.
Then I came to the forums.

Ok, good to know.  I was just wondering if I was missing something obvious.  Given the scope of this game, I guess it's to be expected that some things might fall by the wayside.

Does it ever happen to your does someone frome your family, friend or neightbour comes to you just for a coffee/tea and chat a bit ?
Same with the visitor who don't got anything to sell/buy.

And with the hospitality mod, you even can increase the standing with them if you made good coffee/tea ! :-)

mndfreeze

Yeah, but the OP was asking about the vanilla game, not mods and asking about the purpose of it being there since in this game you don't socialize or really anything with those random visitors.  I.e. it servces no actual gameplay purpose.

Well, looks like I'm not "everybody." Hospitality adds absolutely unnecessary mechanics.

Yes, but they usually don't just drive by without a word.

...that I know of. I guess if they do and don't tell me I can't know.

Yeah, I don't use any mods either, at least in 1.0.  Never used hospitality though it does sound interesting.  Most of the mods I was using in B18 were integrated now or fluff enough that I don't mind not having them.

It was a good way to capture pawns back when faction relation was meaningless and actually making enemies made the game a little easier.

And you can still do that if you like really, sometimes it's a good idea.  They can also make good thrumbo bait  8)

Outside of being potential slaves if you don't mind starting wars, they're pretty innocuous.

It would be nice however if we could actually do something with them, as opposed to them wandering about. When people visit my house, they usually aren't here just to pace in my hallway, contrary to popular belief.
Should I feel bad that nearly half my posts are in the off topic section?

Like some special visitor furniture.
Like counter for shop/bar where visitors could buy food, drink and other stuff.
So you can establish a real tourism corner for your visitor and geting some extra income. Maybe they should pay for using the joy tools too ? :-)

I think it serves a valuable function just as-is:  you get the sense that the world around you is alive, and running independently of your colony.

I'm a big, big fan of this sort of thing.  Stuff that's incongruous, that has no easy explanation (or no explanation whatsoever) and no bearing on gameplay, but gives you a sense that "this is bigger than me".

If you've read the LOTR Trilogy, it's kind of the "Blue Wizards" phenomenon.

I think it would be cool if non-trade visitors could come to visit a specific person's grave.
Like maybe the neighboring town raided your colony, and you killed someone's brother while defending the colony.
If you bury them in a public location in a grave or tomb then the surviving relative could come as visitors to the grave.

Maybe they'll be mad at you.
Or maybe they knew the situation and score and are just happy to be able to pay respects to a family member.
