Think of 'manhunter' as a stampede (for herd animals at least). Most times they'd tend to stampede away from their percieved threat (incidentally destroying most things in their path); occasionally they'd stampede towards it to destroy the agressor ASAP, esp. if led by an uninjured alpha male..

Exactly, it's a game-ending scenario quite often, and it doesn't make satisfactory narrative sense or risk/reward sense, especially considering humans have hunted herbivores forever for survival in the wilds.
