New Build = New Colony

Man, this unstable branch testing has been a rollercoaster ride.  I really like seeing the game progress so quickly.  I am having an issue in that every time a new build gets posted I have an uncontrollable urge to start a new colony to testdrive how the new stuff feels, especially when it affects the research tree (due to my work I can really only play Fri-Sat and Sundays, so this isn't an everyday type of thing).  I feel like I'm getting really good at the very first part of the game, but am absolutely clueless about the mid/late game stages.

Is anyone else having this issue?  Should I just ignore the new builds and power through with a game regardless of what gets changed?  Love to hear if how the rest of you guys are dealing with this or have any insights on what I ought to be doing to be in a better position to give useful feedback at this stage of development.

I'm only on my second game in unstable and I play a lot.

Tynan

At this stage it's reasonable to continue one game.

I would love to get more feedback about deep late game and endgame play, and the balance changes going forward should be less extreme than before so continuity will be reasonable. I think, no promises :)

ha yeah, going through the same thing sort of.  Glad the updates are coming in fast tho.
I usually start a game but can't play for a few days so major updates hit midgame.
I'll try to stick it out next time.

Thanks for the clarification, Tynan.  I've never even gotten close to building a spaceship, I look forward to actually sticking with a colony long enough to get further.  Nice to have plans for the weekend!

For me it's more like:
>Tynan uploads new build
>Me desperately trying to fix 50 mods
>After 6 hours I can finally play
>Play 1 hour and now I'm tired and don't want to play anymore
>Repeat

Nah, but really I usually try to not start a new colony, usually gives me a way to directly compare the balance changes. E.g. my defense was good, now it's not anymore -> feedback.
For mod support visit the steam pages of my mods, Github or if necessary, write me a PM on Discord. Usually you will find the best help in #troubleshooting in the RimWorld discord.

Anniebenlen,
welcome at the world of public beta testing :-)
That you have to start new colonies every new build is something you should be aware of.
You can TEST out new feature and give comment's about it, so maybe your comment/suggestion made it into the final game.
But if you like just to play, you shouldn't play unstable/beta/alpha versions.

Can you imagine a beta test for MMO's when you need to create a new character a few times during the beta test ? :-)

Anniebenlen

Oh, I'm aware and accept the nature of beta's.  I would say I'm frustrated by this or anything, like I said I'm glad that the updates are coming as they are (even this latest Meatcube update, I like meatcubes).  I guess I was just wondering if restarting after each one was the best approach, or playing through till the end.  Since Tynan answered this, I feel a bit better about not restarting after each one.  I really look forward to winning/horribly losing a full game so I can post one of those cool graphs and maybe give some useful data for once.
