Do autodoors open at the same speed regardless of material they are made from?  I know when not powered they drop to whatever the normal speed would be, but the wiki isn't clear on if they are just always the same super fast speed or if one made out of granite is slower than one made of plasteel for example while powered.

Koek

No, autodoors just speed up the base speed of whichever material you used. So stone autodoors are still slower than steel or wood

mndfreeze

Hmm.. does anyone have the numbers for em to compare?

Koek

The speed per material in on that page. I guess it is still accurate since I cannot remember seeing anything on doors in the changenotes.

mndfreeze

Well I apparently super derped and missed that, hahaha. thanks.  I was only looking at the autodoor specific wiki page which is mostly useless.

thanks!

Steel and wood do not slow down pawns at all.  Stone autodoors are about as fast as a wooden non-autodoor I think.

The wiki page on autodoors is garbage.  You want the page on door#autodoor

Or just place an autodoor-blueprint with different materials, and check their opening speed over then info screen.

According to that page wood is best for speed, followed by steel, plasteel & silver(!). HOWEVER, I would recommend a 2+ tile long airlock into your freezer if you're after speed efficiency, as the doors still need time to register a presence (plus the insulation is better with an airgap). Example:

OUTSIDE

    --------------C-------------
            A |
            | |
       K    | |        S
            | A
    ----------------------------

    A    -    autodoor
    C    -    cooler
    K    -    kitchen
    S    -    storage

Obviously it can be made more efficient  (2-wide airlock etc) but this should run efficiently for the amount of time you need before rebuilding

Yeah, I already use an airlock on freezers and other temp sensitive areas.  I rarely use autodoors as I mostly find them unnecessary as when they would be the most useful is early when I can't afford em, and when I can afford em I have enough pawns and a well enough designed base that the speed increase serves little to no purpose.

Canute:
I was posting from work so just ploppingn them down in game wasn't an option, and I was looking at the autodoor wiki page not realizing the info I wanted was actually on the main door page. (WHY IS THERE EVEN AN AUTO DOOR SPECIFIC PAGE WIKI IF IT LACKS THE INFO. WHYYYYYY)
