Gifts from traders making the game more easy than it should.

I've been playing the unstable 1.0 version lately and in my opinion the gifts from traders are way too generous and makes the game a bit too easy, especially on naked brutality runs. Not sure if the difficulty level of the game currently affect the value of the gifts, but I think that at higher difficulty levels the gifts should be toned down a bit to make the game more challenging.

I was constantly seeing traders gift me things like an excellent incendiary launcher, a normal steel long sword, tons of plasteel, uranium, 341 silver in a single gift and so on. Hell, in this last colony of mine I got a normal heavy SMG from the very first trader that shows up, before I even had my first mad animal event.

Aside from the value of the gifts scaling with the difficulty I think it would be cool if they also scaled with your reputation with a faction so they don't simply start gifting you valuable stuff without you working for it.

It strikes me as not too different from the cargo pods event TBH.

I like how they saw the naked guy with no food and said, "what he needs is an SMG."

Give a man some meat and you feed him for a day.  Give a man an smg, and you feed him raw human flesh for a life time.

Ice sheet is corrupting me  ::)

rimworld with safety barriers. Visitors leaving really good stuff + person in black = rimworld light  :(

Wtf I played on Naked brutality and almost resorted to cannibalism and I didn't one single gift.

Me too. Took almost 2 years for my first gift, and it was some crappy piece of clothing. I think getting a normal-quality SMG is the exception rather than the rule of these things.

Edit: I was actually a little irritated at the condescension of my "visitors". Uh, excuse me, my colony is doing just fine thank you!

Ser Kitteh

Have a colony going into its 6th year. Not one single gift either.

My brand new tribal run was struggling to feed itself and right on the edge of starvation.  MY very first caravan decided I obviously needed 23 gold.

Thanks guys.  It was tasty.

It seems like the gift feature is a lot like what Hospitality did, only you don't have to build a bedroom or do anything for the visitors and it applies to caravans, and it doesn't seem to be likely that they'll just give me back the 21% condition awful cloth tuque I just sold them for less than a silver to get rid of it.

Do the gifts scale or something? The best I've gotten is 25 medicine. One left 250 or so silver in the river, like they tossed it in there to make us scrabble for it.

I wonder, how do those who don't like it feel about meteors, psychic soothes, escape pods, caravans showing up in the first place, orbital traders who teleport your junk away for better than free... and any of the other dozens of good things that happen on a near daily basis?

I never got how pawns in the game could have such insanely bad reactions to such mundane things.
Then I came to the forums.

Never had a gift, is it like a letter thing or only a small message that pops up and you could miss?

It's a blue letter, says "gift" and they drop something that you could have bought but didn't. Or some silver.

Well unless I'm reading it incorrectly, it looks like you need at least 10 relation to get a gift with a faction, the more the merrier and the lower your wealth the better.  Since you start with 0 faction it's not exactly abuseable in NB really.
