Alpha 5 video bug - Linux

I've been playing each release since 3f (413), and this is the first game-breaking bug I've encountered... it's also the first time I've ever seen video resources behave in this manner under anything other than Windows.

Seemingly at random (after as little as ten minutes or as much as a few hours of play), all of the colors on the screen go... crazy... and the screen stops updating properly, leaving trails of everything on the display... rather like windows when a video driver acts up. The end result looks like this:


...I'm uncertain how to put that into an expandable tag... [ spoiler ] tags seem ineffective. My BBCode-fu is no good here.

What's funny about it is it only seems to apply to the game engine render... all menus are unaffected and work perfectly. Quitting back to the main menu and loading the last autosave rectifies the situation immediately, if temporarily.

If it helps... I'm running Linux Mint 16 x64, Cinnamon desktop environment, with an old GeForce 7950GT on the nvidia 304.88-0ubuntu8 Xorg driver.

Error repeats hundreds of times... same line number. I counted 200 before I gave up and settled on "hundreds".

It's mostly Greek to me, but I think this was actually the fault of a mod. It doesn't seem happy with automatic power switches despawning all the time. I always thought of that as a rather innocuous mod... first time I've seen anything break the game, though.... not that it actually crashes or stops responding. Still quits smoothly.

Couldn't reproduce the problem with just Core loaded, so I guess disregard. I'll go through each mod individually and see if any one of them does it, starting with Power Switch... then post in the mod's thread if I manage to isolate it. If not... who knows? Maybe two or more of them aren't playing nice together.

I'm on PC, but the last time something like that happened to me, it was due to an outdated mod. Maybe you could see if all your mods are current for A5?

...I actually haven't been able to reproduce the error on anything outside of that specific colony save, even with those exact mods. Freak occurrence, I guess.

I get the same graphical error though my colony never load when I get it, I always have to restart my colony when it happens, which is a shame because I had a good one going.

This looks like a bug somewhere in the game code (specifically the power net code).

I'm sorry about this, looks like that savegame may be borked. I hope you can revert to an autosave.

This code has been reworked a bit for Alpha 6 so hopefully whatever caused this issue is gone.
