Hunting and gathering materials from other hexes?

Hi

I'm quite new to the game but I am enjoying it immensely!
I have started a game in a very bare hex and supplies of everything are - LOW.
I was thinking if it was possible to gather a hunting/foraging party and go out to find materials in other hexes in the vicinity of my colony?
I looked at caravans but it seems you can only send it on a scripted supply run (the "quests" you get sometimes) or trading missions that go to other colonies.
Is it possible to use them for my purpose of gathering supplies from other hexes?
If not - is there perhaps another way to do this?

You can make several colonies. There is an option for the number in the settings.
Just hit the "settle" button. However, unless you abandon the colony and make it permanently inaccessible you still get events for that colony even if nobody is there

I have mostly wanted the ability to go to other biomes and capture animals i dont have access to for a zoo! This is good for that? Something that lets me visit hexes with 1 or 2 pawns and wrangle a few critters without making that hex unusable in the future and blocking traffic?

Setup camp mod do that.
It only create temporary map, like these got you got for quest/mission encounter.
With the typical biome animal/flora of this tile.
And they leave an Abandon camp marker on the worldmap for a year.

What does that abandoned Camp marker actually do? What does it affect?

If i remember correctly, it just means you cannot visit that same hex again for period of time (you can specify how long in mod options).

It was added to the B19 version to prevent to exploid the same hex/tile over and over.
Previously you just needed to move out of your base made a temp. camp.
Harvest/hunt/deconst all things, leave the map, and instantly start a new temp. camp with new fresh resources.
The abandon camp prevent this, not sure if you enter the same map, or does it prevent to create a temp. map on that tile.

But like qurffe said, you can change that and some more at the mod options.
