Hello,

I have a strange issue which I have been troubleshooting for a few days now without any success:
The issue occurs while holding down the middle mouse or using WASD to pan or scroll the camera; intermittently the game freezes for a millisecond which makes the camera jump/stutter. This happens every 5-10 seconds which makes the game not very enjoyable.

What I have tried so far...

  • Restart (PC and Game)
  • Uninstalled/Unsubscribed all mods
  • Reinstalled Rimworld
  • After uninstall of mods and reinstall of game; started a new game on different sizes (including small and medium)
  • Latest GPU drivers
  • Different resolution
  • No G-sync
  • Forced no Anisotropic filtering and no Antialiasing

...without any success.

Additional information:

  • I did not have this issue in Beta 18. I did not play in Beta 19
  • The issue occurs when the game is paused or is run at any game speed

Turning google upside-down I have found one other individual with seemingly the same problem. He/she described their problem here (13th of September, 2018): https://steamcommunity.com/app/294100/discussions/0/1743346190274059204/
If anyone have any ideas I would be very grateful as I am currently missing out on Rimworld  :'(

Best Regards,

I have been having a similar issue. A few questions:

1) Do you run with mods and if so, which ones?
2) Does this issue only occur when you have selected one or more objects on the map?

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. Answers to your questions:

1) As I wrote in my original post: I have tried unsubscribing to all mods, then reinstalling the game, then starting a new game without any success. In other words: No mods (the issue is also there with mods).
2) This always occurs no matter if I have any objects selected or not.

I perhaps reported a similar buggle here a few days ago https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=46283
It is rather spoiling my experience with the game - to the point where I haven't actually bothered playing much in the hope it can be resolved.

I haven't noticed it happening with WASD though.. only the middle mouse so perhaps it isn't related exactly.

Hi ODDizee,

I have read your post and it does not seam to be the same. You write:
Quote
Holding the middle mouse button/wheel down in order to pan the view will, at times react strangely and jump around randomly. It is impossible to accurately place the view at a desired location, without releasing the middle mouse button and trying again, often with similar results.
The issue that I am having happens every ~1 to 5 seconds. I can however pan/scroll the camera in between it happening without any problems. Releasing middle mouse and trying again always give the same results.

In addition, included in the mod description you refereed to it says:
QuoteThis works around a bug in the Unity engine version that Rimworld uses for A16 and A17 (version 5.4.1f1) which only affects Linux systems.
...and I am running a Windows system.

It does sound like its two different issues?
I do have the same feelings as you do however. It is very much so spoiling the beauty of a game Rimworld is. I hope you are able to solve your issue!

Not sure if they release any patches/bugfixes inbetween major versions or we'll have to wait for the next big one, nonetheless I can confirm this bug still occurs. There's a few post related to drivers that can be found online, but those are about the cause of the FPS drop rather than the camera jitter itself.

I can say with some measure of certainty that this is the garbage collection issue described in the other thread here: https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=49133.0
