Storage Vehicle (Cart, Car, Truck, Whatever) for moving objects around

I've wanted some sort of movable object holder that can move more than a person can move for quite some time. Simple version can be a cart. More complex ones could be motorized vehicles.

-This can be useful during offense by allowing us to move different weapons, food, metal (to build turrents), batteries (to power them) to an offensive position and deploy an offensive base.
-This can be used to store raw building materials. When we decide to build something large (like the ship), we can move the cart over to the building location, thereby saving time.
-This can be used as a resource gathering mobile zone. Imagine moving it near a metal area, mining the metal, then moving the cart back to town.

Agree, and this would make a perfect candidate for research. Start with some basic wooden carts and graduate to more capacity, self-propelled (faster) devices for hauling. Having the carts be physical objects in the game would be neat. Depending on how many you build, certain (or perhaps all) haulers will be able to move more. This would be very helpful on huge maps where moving pretty much anything from the other side of the map one-at-a-time, takes days.

An initial/simplistic approach could be to simply increase the carrying capacity of colonists across the board per research. In essence, you research the cart, for example, and all colonists gain carrying bonuses even though you don't see the cart. The logic is already there for colonists to pick up raw materials from numerous piles. It would just need extension to allow colonists to carry multiple bodies, or rocks etc. on the same trip.

Muffalo caravans!

yeah hauling stuff on the larger maps is pain, started playing on the smallest one
recently after I realized I can never get to a point where I'd have any use for all
that excess space outside the base

but you could even have them vehicles have those "bills" on how far away colonists task has to be before they're allowed to use them
just so they're not scootering around in the kitchen keeping the things to themselves rather than letting the long range haulers use em =P

..unless you want them to

aand they could run on electricity!

RAIL CARS

If we can keep colonists stuck in certain zones then I'd love to see Muffalo Caravans.

Keeping my colonists divided into many outposts if more fun then running just one. That way well it is and feels like running several colonies.

yeah setting up rails between several outposts in a large map would make fun play
currently trying to have several villages is really painful. the idea of having multiple bases is interesting =P even if just for rp reasons

Muffalo Mounts! Holeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee balls I would very much enjoy that!

Hmm, good idea, but what if there was some way to customize these vehicles. Like you would have an editor you can open, and you could place blocks on a grid format to build your own custom vehicle! The way you design a vehicle would be very similar to building a base, but different parts and compenents.  It would cost the value of all it's parts, (so a battle tank would cost much more more than a potato delivery truck) and you could place items like chairs, turrets, cannons, equipment racks, storage zones, tables, beds, ect. You could build anything from a delivery truck to an APC to a tank! If you build a large enough vehicle you could make a mobile colony with rooms and turrets and food storage. The possibilities are endless! When you were done designing vehicles in the editor, you could make bills in a garage workbench to produce them. Then, alas, you have your mortar truck/personnel carrier/ambulance. The closest thing we have to this idea in-game is the escape ship. So think along the lines of that. This idea would have to be expanded upon to work properly, but it has potential!

I very much like the idea of a wooden handcart. Possibly also a muffalo/horse pulled cart.

DF has issues with hauling large amounts of items dropped off its "raiders". This game looks like it could benefit from improved hauling devices too.

Pickups could be good. If thats the way you want to go.
