Requesting Help from the robust RW modding community

Hi guys!
I am trying to help another modder (CasusAmor/VerdeCaelum) implement C# into their pure XML Turret mods.
The current tasks we're trying to accomplish are the following:
A. Adding a muzzle flash effect for each turret, sort of like what turrets in RimAtomic do.
B. Adjusting the point of exit of projectiles (where bullets leave the turret) so we can simulate gunfire coming out of barrels of various lengths, rather than from the center point which kills the immersion.
I realize both are rather luxurious eye candy effects that might be too much of a hassle for the reward, but regardless, I also need some help with learning how to implement C# into Rimworld xml mods in general. I'm looking for a "breakthrough" lesson, so to speak, that I can't find elsewhere. And so I must ask, am I going to NEED to use Jectools or Harmony to achieve what I want above? If so, from whom or where can I get those initial lessons to breakthrough insight and be enabled to figure out C# in Rimworld on my own?
