I'd never met an iterator I liked....until Zhentar saved me.
Why Unity5, WHY do you forsake me?

Jinxi

You can upload your image here: http://imgur.com/. After that copy & paste the url between the img-tags.

but do these let me put the images directly on the post. I'm writing a story and the images are supposed to help tell it but its kinda ruined if the image isn't on the page. ive seen others do it just dunno how

Is there a way to upload images directly off your pc? I'm really not interested in signing up with some third party file sharing site when it would make far more sense (and would also be far more time conscientious) to simply upload from my computer.

Canute

If you hit Reply and don't use the quickreply window, you can attach files (Restrictions: 6 per post, maximum total size 1000KB, maximum individual size 1000KB)
Imagine's get a dumbnail view until you click at them to enlarge.

The_Hat

Yes, I'm aware of that, but the file size restriction actually prevents me from uploading more than two per post. And I would rather prefer having pics embedded directly into the post itself, rather than the viewer having to scroll all the way to the bottom.

While this may seem more intuitive to the end user, this would be highly impractical and financially infeasible for the Ludeon Studios forum admins, as the site would not only have to reserve large amounts of (costly) server space to store everyone's images, but also support the vastly increased bandwidth from all the forum users downloading/viewing everyone else's images. In fact, the forum's web hosting provider can stop hosting this website if the allowed bandwidth gets exceeded.

By having users upload their images elsewhere to a dedicated web hosting site such as Imgur, this takes the load off the Ludeon forums, as well as taking advantage of Imgur's vastly superior storage and bandwidth limits. Needless to say, you can have near-unlimited numbers of externally-hosted images anywhere in your posts.

Shurp

Also, it greatly limits Ludeon's potential criminal liability if someone tries to post porn or other nonsense.  Anyone allowing users to post images really has to have a filter service to keep that garbage off -- or piggy back off someone else's (eg: imgur.com)
If you give an annoying colonist a parka before banishing him to the ice sheet you'll only get a -3 penalty instead of -5.

And don't forget that the pirates chasing a refugee are often better recruits than the refugee is.
