Help with animal .dll

I need a bit of help with making my first mod. I'm creating a simple new animal as a tribute for my late cat, but am struggling to find an example of the dll for animals. The mod's meant to just create a new Cat race named after my pet, nothing special or flashy, but a tribute to him, and hopefully an excuse to learn some C#

No C# is needed to make an animal. Pure XML.
