Why the Dev is actually a pretty awesome guy.

QuoteI will most likely be able to get the game out significantly before the 2 week time frame. I can scrape out the Kickstarter backer data for people who have paid only, I think, and handle the other cases later. Kickstarter recommends against it but I don't want to make people wait unnecessarily.

It's been less than 24h everyone - just give me a bit of time to sort things out. I am just one guy and distributing a game to ten thousand people through multiple sales channels is a bit tricky :)

He said this one in a thread where people were moaning about not getting the game today. He is trying his best to get the game to people that paid, even though kickstarter, for obvious reasons recommends against that. THIS is why he is a pretty awesome guy. Most people wouldn't go against the recommendation from the people getting the money for them.

Now that I've calmed down from my previous rage, I'm confused.

Why would kickstarter not want you to get the paid backer list early? I mean, as long as you can get it again later for people who have paid later, why not send an updated version every day?

Well mainly because after time passes, usually 2 weeks or so, some (not all, mileage varies) it's more difficult to file a credit card claim against a charge, due to your lack of watching your own credit card spending, and it's not usually wise to give out your product for free. And since kickstarter doesn't want to get into trouble with the dev and credit card companies, the recommend they wait. Also on another note, it's easier to just update a list once then 14+ times.

Yeah, Tynan deserves a round of applause, not only for making and continuing to make this amazing game but also for actively participating in the forums, directly acting on player suggestions, and all-around being a pretty cool guy from what I've seen.

Thumbs up.  Thanks for doing this Tynan, we know you didn't really have to.

In the comments tab on the Kickstarter page for RimWorld I saw a post about the option of scraping the e-mail data. While that could work, there could be an even faster alternative.

I believe there should still be the option to send out batches of private messages (It is different from a survey) to the backers of specific tiers. It was at least in the older system used in 2012. For example, a bulk message that would go out to everyone at the $30 tier with a temporary non-public link to a build that won't update itself with later updates. If that bulk message by tier option is still there then it could be a faster alternative than scraping the data. When you do perform the survey then you can disable the temporary link.

I was impressed that Tynan knew about the project page being archived with portions becoming static. The way the social media contacts was left at the top is something I may need to link to as an example for future versions of my Kickstarter guide.

Overall Tynan ran the campaign very well while being open with the RimWorld community.

Yep thumbs up to Tynan. This kind of thing can get pretty stressful so its nice to see appreciation from the community. Though I think the majority of the people here have high respect for you and do appreciate the fact you interact well with the community and seem pretty passionate and dedicated to your game and keeping us happy.

Tbh if it was me id tell the minority to be quiet and wait the two weeks for the game. Although i guess its nice to see people frothing at the mouth for something youve made, maybe you should have charged more ;)

I think the honesty which the dev has with his backers is pretty refreshing. I don't mind waiting a little bit for the game.

I can understand why people would be upset by waiting an extra two weeks after paying a premium to get the alpha build, but if it's out of the Dev's hands they'll be getting it six weeks before the other pledger's.

If there is a new build ready, then I'll just wait quietly until it turns up.

Props to the Dev for, if nothing else, the fact that he's from O-town. Great city.

But in all seriousness, from what I've seen this is going to be great, and he's handled things well. It'll be well worth the wait, and he's even said he'll use the unexpected delay to add more content if he can so, Kudos Tynan.
