My Idea to Replace the Stockpile Graphic

I have had an idea to replace the current stockpile graphic. Think about it, unless the current graphic is a hologram do you think that the colonists would really see a coloured area on the ground? So this is my idea.

The log walls are wooden pegs placed in the ground, and the wooden flooring is rope tied around the pegs, and the whole area including the pegs and rope would used as the stockpile. I personally think that this could possibly replace the current coloured graphic for the stockpiles. What do you think of this?

A problem with your suggestion is that it wastes space outside the effective region. For 5x5 effective stockpile, 24 out of 49 squares are wasted, i.e. 49%. This is even greater for smaller and non-square stockpiles.

Also, have you thought about how this will work indoors?

I forgot to add that the whole area would be used, not just the inside. My bad. I just thought that it would look visually better than a big coloured square. I fixed the original post.

Then only my last remark about indoor use applies. Also, have you noticed that you can hide stockpiles?

It would be the same as the stockpiles are now. I do know that I can hide them, I just want a reminder that they are there rather than a big coloured box.

I do not know about others, but most (if not all) of the times I create a square stockpile surrounded with walls and floor, a room, a warehouse.
But even without it, it's good as it is in my opinion, this overly flashy wood-floor with metal tiles...Not so much, I'm sorry.
To beer or not to beer.
That is a laughable question.

That's not how it looks. The things in the picture are just representatives of the actual things the stockpile are made of. Did you read the area below the picture?

Sorry, I did but I can't help it. These are basic floor tiles I use otherwise. It they'd be different -ENTIRELY different then maybe I'd be okay with it, but for me these are wood and metal tiles, log walls.

Obviously it would look like this, from what I've gathered

You, good sir have nailed it perfectly. That is exactly what I imagined. Is that a mod of some sort?

naw just a screenshot with the thing drewn on it
I don't even know if it's possible to make retexture mod for the zones
and I don't know how the visual bits of zones get drawn in the game in the first place =P
it's texture would have to work in similar fashion to the wall textures to get it look like that, too

I will ask Tynan if a retexture of the zones is possible. Are you capable of changing the texture if it is?

Creating the .png files yeah I'd be happy to
but I'm not passionate enough about these things to start figuring out any sort of xml files or whatever is needed to put the thing to show up ingame =P

Try having a look around the forums. Maybe the Mods sub-forum can help.

I got to admit Shinzy's artwork swayed me a bit on this one. I'm still skeptic though.

Visually, the rope implies some properties about the tile that are currently not true for deposit zones... such as that it would be combustible, destructible, and hinder movement across it. Either you'd have to add those properties to zones, or mislead inexperienced players with counter-intuitive graphics.
