Hats (or more like scarves) or Another hat layer

Look I'm way too excited about the next alpha with all the traits and hats and whatnot

I was just wondering if it would be possible to add support for multiple layers for the hats in the xml files
much like with the other clothes (Onskin, middle and Shell)

I'm being mostly #Shellfish here cause I've gone waaay ahead of myself and
done good dozen of hat sprites
lot of them would work well together being coupled with another hat
as well as separately

I just thought it'd be fun to be able to combine your own set headwear
Sunglasses and Horatio Caine toupee

or the usual bandit scarf and hat


but then have the possibility of having them as their own separate items, aswell?
Plus if the hat textures work the way I think they work and hide the hair layer
wearing doc cochran goggles or bandit scarf making you suffer from sudden baldness.. well it would look kinda silly

So the other hat layer could work for those 'smaller' hats (and not hide the hair layer. And again I'm totally getting way ahead of things here =P

But better poke the hornets nest before knowing how things work than after you've seen.. wait what?)

This would be really great, especially if there were multiple kinds of hats/scarves (and possibly other kinds of clothes too) that either had no or equal stats in order to be decorative and serve to differentiate the pawns. Right now, the choice is either shirt + power armor or shirt + vest + jacket and all the colonists end up looking the same...

I would have thought that hats would simply be drawn over (or under) the hair, so that it doesn't suddenly disappear when a 'hat' like a bandana is worn. I could see that creating trouble with some hair styles, though... It's hard to say how did Tynan solve that. A part of me now regrets not being a tester :D

So I've been thinking about this, and I'd like to see 3 different head pieces.

Top (For hats, etc)
Eyes (Glasses, goggles, etc.)
Mouth (Bandit Bandannas, cigars, mouth covering ninja masks, etc.)

Then you could have full helmets that replace all of the above and can't be mixed. (sort of like the powerarmour removes normal body armour and jackets)

On top of that, I'd like to see all the hats and armour have "left" and "right" texture files. That way I could make eye patches and bandoliers and things that would look different depending on which side you're looking at the person from.

For items that don't look different from different sides all you'd have to do is flip the image horizontally and save it as the other side, so It'd barely take any extra work at all.

Edit: Actually, come to think of it I'd like left and right texture files for a lot more than just hats and armour. If I started to make faces with tattoos, scars, missing eyes, etc. I'd want them to look different depending on which way the character is looking.

Well if you look in the core mod there's power armour helmet textures.

I imagine those would add some defense.

Maybe a morale boost to people with a nicotine addiction trait and a morale shaft to everybody else close by who has to breathe the second hand smoke. :P

From what I heard hats will have a place in the upcoming A6 update.
