Is there any way to group mods into folders or the like?

For example: If I wanted a "Magical" mod collection, instead of enable/disabling mods individually I could group the ones I would use for that playthrough together and enable them while disabling the rest.
You could have "Modpacks" for different playthrough types.

For people with hundreds of mods it would be a great help.

As a workaround, you could save games with your various mod lists.  But yes, that'd probably be useful.

Some ModManger tools/mods allow you to set groups or at last colour.
And let you safe your current modlist.
At last at the past some people share the safed modlist from Fluffy's modlist since it is xml.

Mods may depend on other mods and may conflict with other mods. You will have issues when trying to activate group of mods because of that and because of specific mod order they may need. It sound great but may cause a lot of problems and questions "why my mod group doesn't work".
