Hello,

I just bought the game and upon launching was greeted with a black screen (whole system becomes unresponsive). I've tried all the things in the forum post about launching problems. Did all that. I'm on steam, tried both from steam and from inside the folder. This is my crash log (decided to post it here, cause it was so short)? Also, not using any mods, freshly installed the game on steam. Running Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB 64-bit (Build 14393).

I think you allready tried to update the video driver ?

But the log don't say anything about problems.

makaukenas

Correct, latest AMD drivers 20.2.2
Yes, I find that weird as well, I believe the whole system crashes before it can log anything.

Canute

You said black screen, so it is still running (more or less).
I encounter 3 kind of crashes so far.
Rimworld crash, then you get a notifacation window and crash folder.
Rimworld force exit, Rimworld process just ended without warning
And at Windows BlueScreen.

But that log didn't even show the rimworld version.

Could you try to start the Rimworld.exe at the installation, with rightclick as Admin ?
And check if the logfile maybe show more.

makaukenas

There is another log Player-prev which shows:
Begin MonoManager ReloadAssembly
- Completed reload, in  3.109 seconds
<RI> Initializing input.
<RI> Input initialized.
<RI> Initialized touch support.
UnloadTime: 5.699850 ms
RimWorld 1.1.2579 rev1090

I'm always running apps as administrator :( You see, after I run the game I must restart the computer, because everything freezes.

Canute

Ok, at last the Rimworld version is visible this time.
But the log don't show any problems from the Rimworld side.
So it should be your mashine that prevent the running.
I saw there is a newer AMD driver from 19 march, maybe try these.
But without any clue's it is impossible to tell what.
Disable other background tools, like overlay, overclock, sound enhancer ....
Beside any nessesary things.

If you got a spare video card around, try to switch.
Just to check if it works with that card on your windows, then you exclude the video card (driver) or point on it.

makaukenas

Updated drivers - didn't help.
Disabled everything via System Configurator and performed clean boot with no additional programs. Nothing new.
Reinstalled the game - nope.
Finally I decided to uninstall video drivers altogether... Still nothing.
Event viewer also doesn't show anything suspicious, just the usual Kernel Power and whatnot.
Unfortunately I haven't got a spare video card laying around to test with.
The last thing I could try is reinstalling windows, but I'm not sure I want to bite that bullet just yet, cause it's just a pain in a tushie...

makaukenas

OK, so here's a quick update.
I got 19.11.2 drivers installed and FINALLY something new happened, encountered BSOD.
I believe I was always getting BSOD's but they weren't just showing for some reason.
The error goes like this "VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR"
I ran "sfc /scannow" command in CMD, in hopes to fix any corrupted files.

Canute

You got enterprise, and since you know about the "sfc" you might have a bit more knowledge.
Why not try to setup a virtual mashine, not a clone of your current, a fresh/clean one.

And since you use steam, you can try to install Rimworld 1.0 and check if that version with the older unity engine works.
But then it is a 100% vault of the video driver, and you should made a posting/email to the AMD support.

Just as I feared, it ran on VM...
Now somehow I'll need to get a response from AMD, wish me luck :D
Thanks
I found a bloke having the same issue as me, unfortunately no official comments from AMD side
OK, news flash, the older 1.0 version worked like a charm on my current setup. It's something I guess.
