I am getting a new version is available notification when I launch the game but when I go to my email and the download link its the same version as the one I already had.   I don't care to try to many more times as I don't want to burn my number of downloads.

The download link is always the same, though. If there's a new version, the number of downloads will always be reset anyway, so you can see in the link that if it's back to 5 then it's most probably a newer version

Don't worry about trying too many times, your download count resets with each update.
