trying to figure this out and no luck thus far... some but not all files have M variant files that are black and red. what are they?

examples being DeerMale_east.png, cematorium_east.png... but not cougar_east.png

They are colour masks!
The black stops colour from being applied to that bit of the texture's surface and retaining the original colour of the texture

the colour applied also depends on the brightness of the red,
the brighter the red the more vibrant the colour applied will be
so if you'd have some darker red the applied colour on those areas would look more washed out

They would also work as black & white + any shades of gray, if you're looking to make some of your own masks for textures ;D
