Hey everyone.

First off, sorry for carpet bombing the forum with new topics. I promise to calm down once the novelty of RimWorld wears off. ;)

On to my question. From what I was able to infer, characters are able to hunt automatically. However, this doesnt seem to ever happen for my colonies. I have to draft a hunter and manually have them kill animals.

I didnt think much of it until I got an assassin who wasnt capable of much else than hunting, and he still didnt go hunt even though I set the priority for hunting to 1.

So... how do you get your colonists to hunt out of their own will?

You don't unless you set the Hunt order. Look in the Orders menu and select the bow and arrow which says Hunt underneath. Then click and drag the box it makes over a herd of animals.
You see this tank?

This tank is the epitome of "I'm going to destroy you"

This tank can make Chuck norris cry.

All hail the Takemikazuchi.

Select the Architect menu then Orders and Mark animals to be hunted with the Hunt tool!

That should be all!

Edit: Daaaarn youuuu vaggiiieee! stole my moment of glory!

Damien Hart

You both got in while I was typing!

As mentioned, on the orders tab of the architect menu, you'll find the hunt tool. You have to designate animals to be hunted manually, and then colonists will fulfill that order automatically.

Watch out you don't send too many hunters out at once, or friendly fire can become an issue.

It's also a good idea to only designate small groups to hunt at a time, as a colonist that becomes incapacitated during a battle will drop their weapon, and once they recover they will happily punch muffalo with an outstanding hunting order, risking serious/permanent injury, or even death.

Thanks guys! I was sure it would be something obvious that I was missing.

Also, thanks for the tips on how to hunt. There is so much that can go wrong in this game...

Also get into the habit of disabling hunting for all new, unarmed colonists, otherwise as Hart said, they'll try to kill a muffalo with their fists and get killed or injured.
