Hello,
i have game on gog,
installing mods for non-Steam users is painful and almost impossible.
Updating mods is no funny joke.

Why can't it be inside the game ?
For example, if I want to install mods in factorio, just start the game, go to the mods tab and select what I need.

No matter what launcher i have, where i buy the game. It just works.

Why can't it work the same here?

Installing mods isn't hard, there are a plethora of Steam Workshop downloaders. Issue is updating said mods, it would be nice to have an in-game updater at the very least.

So yeah, +1.

This one works sometimes http://steamworkshop.download
Every else downloaders do not work.

So no, it is't easy. About a year ago it was a nuisance but possible, now it is not.

I purchased originally Rimworld from the website, because I dislike Steam or any DRM. Now that's in GOG, where I have all my games, I'm planning to purchase it there too, and, to keep the modlist updated, I'm testing a tool named "Rimpy". Search for it, it may look for any mod which needs update for non-steam users

I use WorkshopDL, it works fine.

It is for windows and mac only, i'm debian user.

And still this is third party software dependent on steam.

Define dependent, it doesn't require a Steam log in. The mods have to be hosted somewhere, just happens to be Steam in this case.

I'm assuming Debian is a Linux based OS, I know there are ways to run Windows apps on them but I don't use any myself so I can't confirm. Good luck.

gallanonim

Yes, debian is linux.
Yes it it possible to run windows app.

But compare it to factorio, just run game click "mod button" and select what you want.

Actualization ? Easy, go to actualizations tab and do it.

But how this looks in rimworld ?
First try google this mod, maybe is awaitable only on steam, maybe if you have good luck somewhere else.
Next try find outsource tools to download it from steam. Maybe, some works....

Actualization ? Repeat all steps from "install chcecklist".
If none had an update, you've done all your work for nothing.

If you have many mods, actualization is 3 clicks in factorio vs hours of hard manual work in rimworld

I have heard that it is possible to utilise Windows software on them
