Getting into modding

Hello,
I would like to start learning how to mod. I have no coding or modding experience, and feel somewhat intimidated and confused on how to start.
I'm a doctor, a psychiatrist, and am particularly interested in making something related to general medicine and to psychiatry, adding some content and changing how some diseases and medicines work. I am familiar with many of the mods on steam's workshop related to this and am not satisfied with the implementation.
I would appreciate any advice / help on how to start this path.
