Description:
A set of small patches for the Alpha Vehicles - Age of Sail mod which replace components and plasteel in its parts for sailing ships with Medieval Overhaul's basic components and tar. The ship parts can be crafted now in MO's crafting bench and anvil. Furthermore, the prerequisites for researching or building them are changed. Lateen Sails need tailoring, lumber and advanced research benches, the ships with cannons were moved to new tech nodes with near zero cost that need gunpowder research. A Combat Extended compatibility patch is included. Neither CE or MO are required, of course it's pointless to add this if you have neither.

On Changes to Age of Sail's Balance with Combat Extended:
The mass of the full size cannon ball is over 6kg and from some quick research the average stockpile of cannon balls per cannon in historical ships ranged from 50 for smaller ones to 60 in peacetime to 100 in wartime for ships of the line. The Pirate Caravel fires 9 shots per broadside. To make their cargo capacity enough to load that much spare ammo would require making it more than 10x greater, thus too overpowered and far into breaking the intended balance, a balance change towards "easier" if Combat Extended is installed was still needed because otherwise the Pirate Sloop would not have enough cargo capacity for enough rounds to more than one full salvo. Mini cannon rounds which could be loaded by hundreds in these with no changes at all to cargo capacity can heavily damage similar ships but are too weak for any other more practical use, even a wooden wall can shrug off too many salvoes of mini cannon rounds before it falls. A few dev mode tests later on which several centipedes with miniguns, other of these ships and walls were harmed, the decision was made for very limited ammo capacity plus a still needed 3x multiplier on cargo capacity, enough to store cannon rounds for maybe two on a trip, 3 or 4 salvoes when using it at a home port for colony defense where storing more than ammo isn't important with a Pirate Caravel for example.

On Fighting Centipedes with Frigates:

Don't do it, it's theoretically possible to destroy one with the cannons of the pirate caravel and of the frigate, specially with the CE patch applied, but to get in the perfect positioning vs a centipede with either a heavy charge blaster, a minigun or an inferno cannon to fire a broadside against it before being annihilated, and lining up perfectly so the cannons, that can't swivel sideways, hit it, good luck with that if you want to try it.

Final Notes
I did this for my own personal use, and because I play with the three mentioned mods and wanted a compatibility patch for all of them I could find nowhere, here it is. I'm leaving this small patch for other mods in public domain. All I ask politely if you decide to adopt it and publish it to Steam Workshop is to leave a link to this thread and a direct download link in its Workshop page. Only tested it in Rimworld 1.4 but as it's merely a series of XML patches, it's unlikely it will have any issues in 1.5.
