I suppose this is less of a suggestion and more of question, will there be limits on what players will be able to manufacture?   For instance will be able to make our own bionic eyes or will they only be tradeable, I personally can see arguments for the system going either way.

EarthyTurtle

it would depend, I haven't yet experienced the bionic eyes but I suppose something of that complexity would require advance research and most likely very specialist facilities. It might be the case you can't really make them.

I'm not 100% sure but isn't it the case that Bionic eyes are better than normal eyes? If so being able to produce them players might just replace everyone's normal eyes with bionic eyes. if that is the case like I said I haven't had a chance to play around with them yet.

As of now, you can only get them from traders. Will tynan change that? I don't know. Will modders change that? Most likely.

high research skill at the science table with rare materials? maybe someday.  id like to be able to make powered armor, guns, and all the other stuff.

It would be nice, to have our top researcher, craft bionic implants using the research skill. It's not masonry or corpse burning. It's science!  8)

wouldnt it be awesome if those things overlapped? jks

i was really expecting basic melee weapons to be craftable, with all the technology you can use it seems odd to not be able to craft a knife or even simple clubs, swords or warhammers, so hopefully a weapon crafting bench will be introduced.

edit: we also desperately need medkit manufacturing, or at least bandage manufacturing

keylocke

agreed.

manufacture of medicine, prosthetics, weapons, etc.. would be nice.

maybe they should just combine the ability to smelter slags and mechs to the smelter table. and then just use the machining table for crafting prosthetics and weapons.

as for medicine, maybe make a new crafting table for that.

--------------

crafting weapons and armors isn't really gonna be OP, since it's not that hard to scavenge top tier weaponry anyways.. but maybe add weapons research first. ie : low tech weapons can be crafted without research, but mid tech and high tech weapons, needs to be researched first before being able to manufacture.

it would also be cool if we could craft weapons and armor with "stuff". ie : golden pistols, plasteel powered armor, etc..

I feel all of this is on the TO-DO list somewhere.  its just a matter of when it gets put in.

a lot of stuff is on tynan's to-do list anyways. (i got the impression that he has a looong list when he was talking about it in the tester's area.. lol) but it's good that people discuss these things anyways, just to let tynan know how everybody else feels about it.

besides, everyone's having this sugar-rush alpha 7 moment anyways. might as well get the kinks out while hanging round the "water dispenser" and chatting things up..  ;D

I feel like if bionic eyes are so easy to build that a few ragtag survivors in a backwater rimworld can make and install them on themselves, on makeshift accommodations, i think it's safe to assume most of your colonists would come equipped with such body modifications.

Hm, it would be cool to have some starting pawn with bionics, despite their availability

yeah totally, and also maybe have different stats depending on what stuff it was made of, like a gold club/warhammer would do more damage than a wooden or steel one (because it is heavier), however a gold sword would do less damage than a steel sword (because it can't hold as sharp of an edge because it is softer) but be worth much more money to sell.

side note, i really think leather shirts and trousers should give more protection than cotton ones, and i also agree that higher tier weapons, armour and prosthetics should need research

It should happen. I don't think stone age primitives will have them, but pirates? Other colonists? Why not?
