Nope
It's supposed to be the kind of high tech spaceage clothing material
So you couldn't feasibly produce it with some sort of crummy makeshift machinery

I don't know if I'd call what we can build a space ship. It's really more of a long distance escape pod. Then again, that kinda seems like what space ships are in this setting.
