Excellent, I'm really enjoying your commitment to "vanilla-style" mods. This and Guns+ are some of my favorite mods! Keep up the good fight man!

Since it's a UV light can you also give it the ability to charge solar panels?
R.I.P all my saves that got permanently corrupted by mods

That would be so OP. The UV light giving more power than the solar panel producing... Hello no more power problems.

That's not really how solar panels work, else we'd have solved infinite, reusable energy IRL.

That's not the problem. The problem is that solar panels are not 100% efficient along with everything else involved in the process.

That and energy is lost in every connection or stage switch, so to speak.
In short, something cannot power itself, for it will keep losing energy in the power circle and eventually ends up drained and empty.
You could gain back a little power from UV lights if you could place the panels somewhere where they aren't taking up space for the purpose of the UV lights, but it's not an efficient way to go about it.
For instance, having hydroponics bays in a room with UV lights. If we were to think of the game being 3D, you'd have a lot of wasted UV light going anywhere BUT the bays/plants, such as walls and ceilings behind/above the bays.
While you could mount solar panels in those spaces and catch some of the otherwise wasted UV light, the panels are too inefficient and costly to make it worthwhile. It's probably better to have some high-reflective material coated on the walls and ceiling, instead.
The game doesn't have those dimensions as usable surfaces, though. So you'd end up with placing solar panels in the walkways in between your hydroponics bays and then not having anywhere to walk. Or alternatively you'd have to sacrifice spots for hydrobays to place the panels, which is counter-productive as well.
