I updated to OSX 10.10 (Yosemite) and lost my save files. Apparently Rimworld save files hang out in the "caches" user lib directory (which is weird). It looks like the OS update cleared out the cache files.

It may help if a better location was chosen in the future due to the volatile nature of the caches directory. e.g. one that the user has access to, such as the /Rimworld application folder. Or at least the ~/Library/Application Support directory which is the standard location for this sort of stuff.

Yeah, it was bad behavior from Unity. I've worked around it for A8. Nobody ever noticed it before.

I noticed it when I installed Yosemite with A7, but glossed over it as an unavoidable consequence of the OS update.  That said, I certainly won't complain if my save games are preserved for A8.  :)
