How Am I doing?

I kind of am done with this world : http://imgur.com/a/nNiNX : The people there have power, food, and everything else they need to survive. I am sad that there is no such thing as designations for military like in Dwarf Fortress, but besides that everything can now run without any updating. Is there something else I can do for this colony or am I truly done?  :-\

Well, it's all quite personal. I tend to set myself a goal when I begin. My current playthrough has me trying to create super soldiers with bionic enhancements, armour, effective weapons, and a great shooting skill to boot.

Your colony looks pretty solid. If you're looking for suggested goals, maybe see if you can make a safer powergrid. A battery failure + generator fire could see your entire colony out of power long enough for things to get hairy, especially when your colonists don't have very nice living quarters. I imagine it wouldn't take TOO much for someone to break if disaster strikes.

I'd achieve this by separating it into at least two or three different grids, with their own generators and batteries, independent of eachother. That way, if one fails somehow, you don't get a full blackout.

Otherwise that looks pretty solid. It'll be fun to see how we'll build things when the environment is literally against us. I can't wait for temperature and weather!

I would do that but it would be nice were you could send power in one directing and it would not feed back. The reason for this would be as you said, power failure. I want to have all my solar panels giving power to everything and if one side goes out then it just does not feed it to that part of the area. The power can't go back because it's a one way system.

you could make the place aesthetically pleasing. Get some better flooring in there, actually build walls.
Hi, my name is Matthias and I am a Rimworld Addict. It has been five seconds since my last fix...

That would certainly keep the colonists in a good frame of mind, which buys you more time when disaster strikes. I see you're playing on Randy Random, so it's hard to tell how much you'll have to deal with at any given time. Maybe a new colony on a harder setting? Kind of a "how long until I fail" scenario, rather than knowing you'll be fine.

About 20 colonists, plenty of food, lots of space, and wait, what??? 6 turrets? How do you guys resist urge to build 60?

Well the more turrets you build, the higher the difficulty ramps. Not on Randy Random I suppose, but on the conventional ramping difficulty, a turret counts as just short of an extra colonist(?), if i'm not mistaken, and so your events get a bit harder. I personally prefer a colonist with a gun, from a strategic standpoint. I can move them out of harm's way, a turret is doomed to take its hits and last as long as it can once it's under fire. And if I plan to keep fixing it at that point, why not just have that colonist have a gun and take part himself? I like to micro my fights, just my style  :)

I actually use that room as explosion room, they are quite stupid and like to stand next to the 4 in the back, they blow it up and run away from casualties.
