Electric Fence

The fence would keep things out without blocking line of sight.  You would have to turn the fence on and it should be a big power drain to limit the amount of time it could stay active.

Nice simple idea. Might even just make a non-electric version too.

It's a darwinism thing for dreams.  The weak dreams don't make it over the fence to get counted.  They get fried instead.

No, they die and are reborn every time they sleep, it's a confirmed feature. ;)

I think this would be more useful if it were possible for normal walls to be climbed over. It would be slow, and only specific entities could do it, but it'd make sense.

Well, right now if you want something to block movement but not line of sight, you need to build butcher tables or hydroponics basins, which is rather sketchy (and expensive). Having something specifically for this purpose would be great.

Basic wooden fences would be neat, with more stuff like the electric (Or laser fences, let's go C&C style on em) for advanced defensive purposes.

Just the basic wooden fences alone would be good for containment purposes such as keeping crops protected from wandering wildlife or having somewhere to herd animals into (Also being able to actually herd animals would be a good feature). When a group of deer turn up right next to your colony, it can be a pain to get the resources out there to wall them off in enough time for them not to go wandering again.

Oh okay, whilst we're on it -

Mine fields. And not just minefields, but smart mines you can turn on or off. (from a sci-fi colonist novel, one of the best sci-fi alien books I've read, Legacy of Heorot)

You could have it where when you have an electric fence the raiders will only target your power production as their #1 priority.

so for instance there could be 2 out of 10 raiders who go on a suicidal run into your base to take out your generator so the rest can charge in.
