Now that Alpha 8 is out I'd like to suggest something. Snow/Ice Blocks and Igloos.

If I start a new game in the Boreal Forest biome I'd love to be able to set up some igloos and have an Inuit style colony.

This would be a cool idea for the ice sheet biome. Where it is always freezing.

Is the ice sheet bio ever going to be playable?

Yes there is a mod which includes the ice sheet biome. Its pretty tough.

I want this. Make it so your colonists can build forts and stuff to have snowball fights to increase their morale as well! It would be a good way to provide weak, quick protection against early on game tribe weapons like bow & arrow and spears with snow/ice blocks. Obviously it wouldn't be effective against gunfire.

JuliaEllie : can you may a snowball fight mod?

Are snowballs considered a melee weapon? :D It's just like a handful of stones, right?
I like how this game can result in quotes that would be quite unnerving when said in public, out of context. - Myself

The dubious quotes list is now public. See it here

handful of snow (could have peddles/rock chunks inside)

make via smith/workbench? (would require check to see if winter or cold?)

Good to see another DW fan on the forums. I just finished watching the show. Shame that it won't continue.

I was about to create a new post until I searched and saw this one.

I think Snow Blocks would be a very good new feature considering the Wanderlust update. If you need to travel to the other side of the world going across the poles or through snowy areas could provide players a more hazardous but faster option.

A decay rate would have to be added to the snow blocks dependent on the temperature, the HP of the blocks would also be very low since it's just snow, and the farthest you can build a roof from a snow wall would be 2 squares. Critters and characters would also need to radiate body heat for it to operate as an effective shelter. For a door you could just make a "trench" block that characters could dig that way the Igloo would be a closed space and they can crawl under and into the igloo. Could also use that for characters to dig under walls and dig trenches for defensive positions in other biomes.
