Hello all !

I am on the version 0.652 alpha 8. (don't want to star now a new colony :D )

And I have a big bug. Some time, when I play, the Music and all sound stop totally and no possibility to have one sound or music still I close the game and re start a new one. :/

Can't help more, I didn't see anything special when the bug apper.

I post the bug because I didn't see anything about that on the hotfix description.

I can confirm this one. Playing fine with nothing happening, then a 'click' like sound similar to unpluging an audio device, and no audio at all, first time it's occurred for me. Second 'click' on closing the app, and sound is back when relaunched.
Build 657 here.

Same situation with me. Click, went silent, was fine when I came back. v652.

Another bug occurred about an hour later, black screen on loading, but I will go into that in another post. I was also suffering from stuttering and lag, I presume because of my extensive camp and 22 or so population.

I am having this same problem on the Mac with alpha 8 (very regularly with build 657, but I also noticed it with the earlier A8 builds).  Same symptoms ... a pop sound during the game, followed by complete silence.  One possible difference is that I can always get the sound back by quitting to the game's main menu ... the sound is restored at that point and I can then reload the same game and continue (although I will often lose the sound yet again after another hour or more of gameplay).

I've had it happen as well.

Pc here, after playing for awhile the sound pops and goes silent. Going back to main menu and reloading game fixes it. Two hours of game time I can sort of recreate this issue. Started in A8, did not do it in prior build.

It's a mysterious bug deep in Unity. I'm afraid I can't do much for this but wait till they fix it :p

Hey Tynan someone suggested to post this here related to your unity bug as i posted some info elsewhere which would help troubleshoot the problem itself.. (link to post https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=8779.0)

Part i got told to repost: Did some research, found out its a coding error when audio programming/design with unity, its like a sound/music loop failure, looked up on unity apparently if you don't join a sound loop together a "pop" is emitted from the game to symbolize the end of game sounds and then the silence after is just the games failure to pick up sound, bare in mind this is my own research and even though i do have some knowledge in programming i haven't tore open the game so i can't really back this up but i found it on UNITY's official pages.

hello there :)

i'm wondering about this bug. i see at this topic it's a very old one (dec 2014, really?  :-\ ), but i am still getting this bug with the actual steam version - 0.14.1238.  :(

is there still no fix or work around for this error?

yeah okay, saving and load the savegame works, but it's a little bit frustrating.  ::)

hoping for a solution..

best regards
lordi

ps: maybe some infos help getting an idea: win 10 pro (build 10586.494), realtek audio.

Had the same bug twice in two days - version 17b

@ zakouski - Even though Tynan's comment above is two and a half years old, it is still valid AFAIK. The sound cutting out is a Unity bug that only Unity can fix. I think the Unity engine RimWorld uses is going to be updated for A18, so maybe that will fix the issue, or at least make it less frequent (although I wouldn't hold my breath personally).

If you encounter the issue again then a simple save and reload should fix the issue (although sometimes you might need to restart the game or even reboot the computer to fix it). If you get a problem with the sound not working at all, even after a reboot, then please create a new thread in the support forum. (as that will likely be an issue local to your computer rather than a bug in the game, hence the support forum rather than bugs).

Closing this now as even though this bug still exists it's a Unity bug rather than a RimWorld one (so nothing the devs can do).

Just for the record: this bug is most likely fixed in A18. More info: https://ludeon.com/mantis/view.php?id=1001
