[L|0.8.671] Mouse pointer doesn't track to correct location

I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 on a Dell Latitude E6440. The actual mouse hover point is several pixels above the displayed pointer. For example, on the initial screen, when I hover the mouse pointer over over 'Load Colony', the 'Create World' button lights up. I have tried setting the CustomCursorEnabled to 0 in the prefs file, no go.

Note: running windows 7 on the same hardware; no issue.
