Little bit of colony background;

Ille is a fortified settlement housing 10 colonists, its leader (Malcom/Myself of course), has ensured there has been no colonist deaths this far, but there have been plenty of near-misses. He himself lost his index finger while battling mechoids. The most major injury was a missing limb from our second in command stella, who was an outer-space medieval minstrel from hell, but that's another story. We are just months away from completing our space-ship to leave the planet. Only a few more cryo-pods and some plasteel for the engines and we'd be set to go.

So begins the story of Tail.

One rainy night the colony hears and escape pod slam into the ground and explode. Everyone rushes to see whether there's valuable resources on board, or if there's any survivors that need tending to. Amongst the debris is a 15 year old, named Tail. From electronic records located on her person (Her diary) we found that she was shunned as a child, and bullied as well as abused. However, she was able to find solace in art and was on her way to a promising art career. There isn't anything about what ever incident caused her to evacuate, but we were able to assume it was some sort of fight. She sustained little injury from the crash and was quickly able to recover with the care of our two skilled doctors.

Now, here's where things take a turn for the worse. The rest of the colony and I had noticed she wasn't quite whole. She struggled to get about, and if left unattended it was quite possible she could begin to starve or get extremely tired just in the time it took for her to complete the tasks. She was cognitive and responded as well as she could. We didn't think anything of it until one of our crew observed her at the sculpting table attempting to make a statue. She struggled with the tools, clearly frustrated with the fact her body was not acting like it should, we offered for a closer examination which she seemed hopeful for. However, the results were far from treatable. It appears she had suffered a head-wound from a ballistic source. It seemed rather large for basic firearms, so we assumed it was from a turret or large caliber weapon. There was a entry wound on the front left of her face and there was only a small scar on the other-side.

My Doctor and Surgeon confided in me, saying there was nothing more they could do, operating to remove the final pieces of metal could damage her further and there's no way to recover whatever person she was. I suggested placing her into a cryo-chamber, wait for an answer, but they said it would only delay the inevitable and if she were to be left in the pod too long, well... So we assigned her first to light duty. Sweep when she could, sculpt whenever she felt like, but eventually even the basic tasks proved too much for her. We let her do as she pleased from then on but it was still a sorry sight. Unattended it would take the girl the entire day to reach the cooler, retrieve a meal, eat it and walk back to her rack for the night. We considered gently sending her into the hereafter, with anesthetics and medicine, but decided who are we to play god? So we made sure to keep everything close for her. Things were going well for a time, we threw a birthday party for her but I don't know if she knew what was going on, she was doing well for a time... Then one night I get woken from a deep sleep by the good doctor. He let me know of her passing. Never had the crew mourned like this before. The first, and the last death on this planet under my command, weeks before launch. We bury her here, hoping that at least her spirit can find the rest she couldn't in life.

[[ In an aside, it was pretty sad to watch her walk around on 3x speed, and on 1x it was down right pitiful. She had a damaged brain (3/*) from an Improvised Turret shot. I did my best to keep her alive and I don't rightly know what killed her. I think she started starving on her way to sleep because she was exhausted and starved in her sleep. ]]

AI persona core, would have saved her.

milon

Only with a mod.

Also, wow, poor Tail.  She always gets the short end of the stick.

Hayhorse

No, if you install a AI persona core into someone with brain damage they will no longer have brain damage. I did it to a colonist that was a prostophile and their conscious stat goes to 120% Enhanced

Malcom347

It would seem more like you were replacing their brain with the AI core. Not 'repairing' it.

Hayhorse

What I like to think is that their conscious gets transferred to the persona core before being placed inside the skull
