Starting soon myself. Just have to finish my current game. Im curious though. How do you handle besieging considering your base is out in the open?

This is my current setup
Greenhouses are working. communal eating/medic bay and a prison in the back :)

Nice to see someone using the dutch translation. It's still a work in progress as you can see though :)

I have five mortars (two incendiary and three regular) and only six colonists. The second the attackers show up, I put everyone on them except for my cook/warden who I promote to firefighter when this happens. I make sure to target the mortars themselves and I have lots of redundant wire connections so that if they destroy one connection, everything is still running. When a fire bursts out, I draft and undraft the warden so he deals with it immediately. (If a fire does erupt, make sure to remove a section of the roof to let heat disperse)

Also, it's a good idea to claim all of the abandoned structures on the map. Pirates will sometimes stupidly attack the random walls instead of your colony. I love watching dudes with shivs explode on their old mortars. :D

My colony is in May of Year 3. The raider and squirrel attacks are getting obnoxious, mostly because some of them are targeting the doors instead of entering the box. I am working out how to get them to stop doing that. Had an issue where one of my geothermals was hit by an incendiary mortar, causing me to lose power to some lights. Then, another one hit my main geothermal throwing my colony into darkness. Managed to fix it by morning before the assault, but it threw me off my game. Only deaths so far have been a few prisoners I drove to madness and froze to death and Tony the founder, may he RIP.

Cool structured colony. Looks very organized, and I see you've used the same maze killbox again :)

I tend to go for a bit more "organic" looking colony, and this is it after 38 days. It was just attacked by the a Mech with a minigun, but there was no injuries.
Previous to this, there had been 3 other attacks from pirates, the first was one dude that managed to injure Jon with a pistol but I captured him, and the next 3 pirates injured both Tony and this new "Boots". The 3 attack came right after a tribal visit, so I diden't even have to lift a finger as the tribewarriors smacked the hell out of them! (Seen below) :D

Those tribal warriors are deadly early game! I love the look of your colony. It does seem very organic and very cool digging into that hill! On my game, I just completely removed most of it. Haha. Glad to see all of your colonists are still alive! I miss Tony :(

Just had another crashed ship fall and my colonists are fed up of it. We've built our ship and are preparing to leave. Just hit Spring of Year 4. Soon to abandon Fort Dandelion Fields. Learned a lot.

- Solar is too limited for late game extravagance and batteries are incredibly annoying when they explode every two weeks. Wind is the way to go because they're ridiculously reliable.
- Mechs love to start fires inside of killboxes decorated with dandelions and dandelions are great for landscaping as they don't die as often as flowers.
- Don't game the system so that tribals are your only enemy. It makes the game way too easy late game.
- If 1/3 of your colony's population are decent doctors, you're set for life. Had 0 serious injuries due to our huge medicine stockpile and hospital beds. Also had many bionic supersoldiers, and I could have gone further but it reached a point where there was really no point.
- I can't wait for Alpha 9 because the economy goes to crap once the AI starts sending a crap-ton of raiders at you. It ruined most of the fun pretty quickly after I wasn't desperately trying to scrounge for resources.

Thanks buddy :)

Yours is truly amazing too! I can't even comprehend where you've started building it from. Did you plan most of it out from the start, or did you just flow with it?
Love the look of the medical bay :D

In terms of batteries, I always try to balance it out, so I don't need anymore than 4 batteries. I had a colony with around 40 batteries and when there was a shortcircuit the explosion was immense!

I will go back playing now! Im through my first year now.
Here's a pic of the last attack.

And congrats with the victory!

The damn ship landed right in front of my maindoor, and even spawned a scyther inside!

kasimirtlw

I restarted my colony 3 times already not liking the setup i made.
sometimes i build something out of need but it doesn't fit the general building structure i wanted to achieve. ;)

The-MathMog

Now that is dedication for the aesthetics of your colony :D

Today I had the luckiest/unluckies moment ever!

A group had just arrived to besiege my colony. So for the normal procedure I put my men on the mortars to fire back at them (I have 10 normal mortars and 5 incendiary). I get a few good shot at them before they get their mortars up and running, bu they eventually do.
The first mortar shot from them is fired. It streaks right into my base, at hit my man "Boots" straight on the head (he was also on a mortar.
I get him carried into a medical bed and healed. No permanent injuries luckily.
I see that their mortar fires again some time after. I follow the mortar, and where does it hit?
Straight onto "Boots" again, who are now in a medical bed, bringing him even closer to death, also injuring the doctor healing him!
He manages to survive 2 direct mortar hits, and makes a full recovery with no permanent injuries! Amazing!

(Note, the ear he had allready lost in a previous battle) He's a tough Motherf***er!

I just had every squirrel on the map attack my base. By good fortune I had 2  3*2 boxes with a gun linked to the entrance. both guns went up in a bang but so did the squirrels like a squirrel pinate. I love it when boom rats mix in with the fury carpet of death :) . it was snowing squirrel fur for sure

MikhailBoho

Hahaha MathMog, that is amazing! What a strong little colonist. I get so salty when I watch 20 of my mortar hits miss, and they hit me, twice. During my game I had an enemy hit my mortar, injuring my colonists, then.. he hit them exactly in the same spot blowing two of them (right in my colonists face). I absolutely hate their accuracy.
