It would be really nice to be able to differentiate the roles and abilities of the NPCs from the overview, I would propose a trio of extra squares next to their names (on the right).

Each of the squares would, like the priorities cycle through the list of options available(with a tool tip explanation that changes on each click).

I have given some examples.

The first column would be (the npc's origin): Founder, Traveller(walk on or crash), R-Raider.

The second column would be: Scientist, farmer, Citizen (if no skill above 5), Doctor, (this column could be automatic based on their highest skill with the mayor being the most qualified citizen).

The Third: Sherif, Deputy, SFD.

The primary purpose would be to give a meaning to the list of colonists and to add character to the colony. So over time for example ex raiders could become citizens, on a second founding say 365 days in everyone becomes a citizen,

I like the idea of a citizen ranking system, maybe not that advanced, but your proposal is a start.

It would improve the role- playing part with the characters of the game, but t should be kept as simple as possible for the people who aren't so interested in it.

I forgot to add, this idea would be purely a visual thing in the current game's overview and have no gameplay significance as a concept at this time.

Reticulating all the splines.

I like the idea of specializations even if its purely for organization for the players notes. I also was thinking of nominating a leadership position and having emotional implications of that on other colonists.

Would your leader be a specialist, a jack of all, or the one with the most experience points(cumulative levels)?

As an idea, it could have game consequence later, I mainly like it because there are two guys in my colony who for whatever reason have to be arrested regularly. I'd like to think its something I did, but its always the same two guys AND the overview is almost 4's across the board.

Depending on how character interaction works on a social level in the final game, for example, having too many law makers would have a negative effect on the citizens, whereas if everyone was SDF, there wouldnt be a problem. But there could be temporary buffs for example:

+4 to shooting to 4 deputies for ever 1 sheriff - each deputy resents the sheriff slightly (has a negative effect if the sheriff has a breakdown).

Yes, I spelled sheriff wrong. :)

But, for now, this idea i think is best as a visual assist. Does this qualify as a 4 hour idea?

I was thinking more along the lines of social impact of nominating a leader or specializations. I do like the idea of buffs being earned but socially it could have impact on the morale of the colony.

Think about if you chose the wrong leader and the rest of the colony revolts against him. Now you have a colonists who may be pretty good at what he does but hes not a good leader. They would either kill him or lock him up.

But if hes a good leader the colony could excel in certain situations. You could either choose a leader or have someone become eligible via actions taken during life on your colony.
