gun pickup for two colonists at once

So i decided to see what happens when i ordered two people next to a gun then paused the game. i ordered them both to pick the gun up one they both picked it up, but when i ordered one of them to attack a boomrat the other started to aim but never fired. i then ordered the first person to drop the gun  after he dropped it the second fired, so i guess the main thing is don't try and cheat the system.
