Blind pawns shouldn't get any moodlets based on sight (room beauty, dirt, Beautiful/Ugly, witnessed corpse, etc).

Nope, this isn't a joke!  It's coming!!

https://ludeon.com/blog/2016/05/steam-release-this-summer-with-scenario-system/

Alpha 14, tons of new content, a brand new Scenarios system, and a Steam launch, all headed to you this July!  (Probably. ;) )

EDIT: I read through the comments, and on the topic of Steam Keys, a user that appears to be Tynan said:

Quote from: Tynan SylvesterValve's rule isn't against giving keys to people after the game is out. It is against selling keys before the game is available on Steam.

I am also able to generate all the keys I like. But, as I've been specifically told by Valve, I'm not allowed to sell those keys right now. That's why I don't promise keys.

So, to summarize. Later, I'll be allowed to give keys to everyone. But now, I'm just not allowed to sell those keys, until the Steam release. Note the subtle but important difference.

RimWorld A13

Artwork can be anachronistic (misplaced in time).  See attached image for example.

Oops!  I just noticed that I cropped the date off the image.  *facepalm*  I was messing around with some other things and didn't save the game, so this particular instance is lost.

But I know for a fact that when I took the screenshot, the in-game date & time was the 1st of fall, 5500 at 7h.  The artwork is a grand sculpture which took the artist days to make.  And unless Eva 'Philly' Jefferson is psychic, then this is anachronistic.

What I expected to happen: All event-based artwork on an object should reference an event that took place before the creation of said artwork began.

As an aside, Lumi is In Shock.  Should she be able to have a social conversation like she's doing in the image?  If that's an actual bug, I can make a separate thread for it.

Bugs / [A13] Typos
May 20, 2016, 01:11:35 PM
I recently had a colonist build a sarcophagus with art entitled 'Contempative unrest' (I'm actually worried about undead now!).  But shouldn't the title be 'ContempLative unrest'?

Post any other typos here too.

Ideas / Reinstallable Tables

All Production tables should be able to be uninstalled/reinstalled just like furniture.

If you can spare the soil, plant flowers on your non-essential walkways and in your storerooms and anywhere else that you can get away with.  They increase beauty (a 5% grown flower still has 100% of its beauty rating) and they have a short lifespan which means your growers get lots of experience.  Just make sure to have some actual flooring that's 2 or 3 tiles wide every so often to act as a fire break in case of raiders or Zzzt! event.  And if you're going to plant flowers in your hospital, use a flower pot, not soil.  Plantable ground means dirt gets tracked around, which makes the room dirtier and increases wound infection chance.

Ideas / Nocturnal Suggestions
May 17, 2016, 09:04:11 AM
There's currently no point in having night-time at all.  Everything sleeps at night - colonists, visitors, raiders, animals, & plants.  (The only exception is colonists you've specifically told to get up for whatever reason. Like that Night Owl Brawler who is your invincible nocturnal hunter.)  I think we should have night, but I also think it should serve a purpose.

Having said that, I suggest nocturnal animals as a good step in the right direction.  What else would be good to add to "flesh out" the night life a bit?

Stories / Is this RimWorld or a soap opera?!
May 17, 2016, 08:39:40 AM
So I started a new game just to mess around a bit and have fun.  And I'm starting to wonder if I'm watching the wrong channel or something.  Let me explain.

I began the game (no mods) with these colonists:
Harriet 'Sissy' Phillips, Janitor
Todd Jefferson, Grunt & brother of Philly
Eva 'Philly' Jefferson, Office (Todd's sister, naturally)

As the game progressed, I acquired a colonist named Theodore 'Seraph' Seraphimus.  I don't recall how, but I've never had any prisoners according to the world history (seems it doesn't record Wanderer Joins or Offered Safety anymore).  He is a Combat Negotiator and a Hardworker, but he's also Ugly and a Pessimist.  Some negotiator!  Everyone hates him, and he's even gotten in a couple fights.  He's also got a burning passion for doctoring, so naturally I made him a doctor.  Well, one day Philly (our skilled Hunter) picked a fight with him.  She's better at melee combat, but I guess she wasn't counting on his Combat Negotiation skill.  ;)  Seraph took some bruises, but he knocked her out cold.  He then immediately picked her up, carried her to her room, and began treating her injuries like nothing had happened.  Even though they hated each other.  It's complicated, I guess.

So the game goes on, and a wanderer happened to join us.  Her name is Carys Arnold, and she's a miner.  She's naked, greedy, and lazy, and she's also Seraph's mommy.  Things are starting to make sense.  I build her a room, get her some clothes, and she starts fitting in and making friends.  Well, except for her ugly son Seraph.  They're not exactly what you would call close.

Shortly after that, we get an emergency call from a woman named Alisa Jefferson.  She's screaming for help and running from The Cannon Snakes.  Where have I heard of The Cannon Snakes before?  Before I can figure that out, Todd starts screaming that Alisa is his wife and that we have to rescue her.  I don't see any reason not to, so why not?  We agree to let Alisa join us, and just as she's getting to the front door, her assailants appear.  Among them is a man named Stephan Daugherty.  He's an apocalypse survivor, the husband of Carys, and yes, Seraph's FATHER.  Daugherty's most recent back story is...  wait for it... DEFECTOR!  (And now I think I know both where Carys wandered in from, and more importantly, why.)

Poor Seraph!  His family is a mess!  They're so fragmented that none of them even have the same last name.  My guess is Seraph had one of their last names originally, but he dumped that when he dumped the rest of his family, and adopted his own nickname for his last name.  He's the kind of guy who watches out for himself.  He somehow made it onto a passenger ship to get AWAY from the madness (that's when he became a Combat Negotiator, me thinks) and the damn ship crash lands on his home planet!

So now we have Seraph's family and all its related drama.  We've got the more stable Jefferson family and it's connections.  And who am I leaving out?  Oh right - Harriet 'Sissy' Phillips.  Who seems to really have a thing for Philly Jefferson.  This is getting interesting.  ;D

Want to see how it plays out?  Download the attachment & find out for yourself!  Post the results!  And remember - you've still got 4 members of The Cannon Snakes to deal with.  Enjoy!

So I just managed to avoid a forced upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  I wouldn't have been so lucky if I hadn't decided to sit down at my computer a little while ago.  I did not authorize an upgrade, and I'm shocked and angry that MS would elect to do this.  I googled it, and I'm not the only one this has been happening to.  What's even crazier is that MS is doing this to businesses & medical facilities, and there's all kinds of incompatible software that's causing no end of problems.

We know Win10 is chock full of privacy violations, we know MS loves to snoop and data mine and advertise.  And now they're trying to forcefully push everyone onto Win10.  Why?  What's their next move?  Does anyone have knowledge or guesses about their long-term game with this?  Where's my tin foil hat??

Bugs / [A13] Spacious, yet crowded
May 13, 2016, 01:24:03 PM
See screenshot, unmodded RimWorld A13.  Not totally certain this is a bug, but it's confusing.  At night, a colonist was complaining of her room being crowded while being happy for the spacious interior.  There was no decay timer on either moodlet.  There is a Labrador sleeping in the room, if that matters.

You should be able to replicate this just by looking at the picture.  I removed a couple walls and she quit complaining, don't have an earlier save to provide.

Bugs / [A13] Error moving furniture
May 13, 2016, 01:19:39 PM
Vanilla RimWorld 13.  What happened was that I tried to move a table over 1 tile, and couldn't because the space was blocked (only by the table I was trying to move).  What I expected to have happen was to be able to move the table since nothing else was blocking it (a thing shouldn't be able to block itself from moving).  See screenshot.

General Discussion / [A13] Food Stats

Food stats for Alpha 13 - Plants Edition

I didn't see this done yet, so I went ahead and did some number crunching.  This includes all edible plants, including wild plants & haygrass.  All raw data was taken from the A13 Defs files (the wiki is quite outdated).  This is all theoretical and hasn't been tested for accuracy (but should be correct).  Calculations were not rounded off at any point.  Since I don't know how the game handles numbers internally, expect to see some slight differences when compared to actual playing.  See the attached .xls file if you're a nerd like me and want to dig deeper.  And please let me know if I've made any mistakes!

The results could be classified as Holy Agave, Batman!! and has me questioning the value of Haygrass.

I've highlighted the wild plants & haygrass to make reading/planning easier:

Breakdown:

  • Nutrition per day is what you want to max out for feeding your colony
  • Market value per day is what you want to max out for selling
  • growDays per plant is what you want to minimize if you need a harvest now (Ice Sheet, I'm looking at you)

Notes:

  • Raspberry is a wild plant (unplantable), and is found in AridShrubland, BorealForest, Tundra, TemperateForest, & TropicalRainforest
  • Agave is also wild, and is found in AridShrubland, Desert, & ExtremeDesert
  • Strawberry & Wild Raspberry both harvest "berries", which are the same thing but grow differently
  • Agave, when available, is generally the best thing going
  • Raspberries are 2nd best
  • If you're not exploiting wild plants, go with Rice @ HydroponicsBasin
  • If you're skipping hydroponics, go with Corn or Rice @ RichSoil depending on your needs
  • Haygrass always sucks, especially since animals that eat it can also eat other plants & meals (I think)
  • Rice, strawberries, and potatoes are the only foods that can be grown in hydroponics
  • The AteRaw debuff is given by Rice, Potato, & Agave.  Which means it is not given by Strawberry, Corn, & Raspberry.
  • MarshyTerrain is not Marsh (which does not have a GrowSoil tag and cannot be planted on).  I'm not totally certain what MarshyTerrain is, or even if it's used, but it has the same fertility as Gravel, so meh.
  • I make the assumption that harvestYield is the max crop yield for a plant. There is no more "minimum" amount harvested. Harvesting is based on the colonist's skill level, and there's a chance for total harvest failure.
  • All calculations assume perfect lighting, temperature, and harvesting
  • Plants don't grow at night, so I think Rice growing in a hydroponics basin actually needs more than 1 day
  • I'm not totally certain about the function of fertilityFactorGrowthRate. I'm think it's a measure of plant dependency of soil fertility, with 1.0 meaning the plant is totally dependent on soil fertility and 0.0 meaning the plant completely ignores soil fertility.  I treated this as a linear interpolation between the two.
  • I assume Tynan will nerf the wild plants and perhaps boost haygrass after he sees this :)

This is a recreation of an accidentally deleted thread.  There is no confirmation for the Remove Thread action, and while I didn't intend to click on Remove Thread, my phone believes otherwise.  Apologies to whoever the OP was; I didn't see the name in time. OP, please feel free to comment, add screenshot, etc.

OP: I'm not sure if this is a bug or an exploit of intended game mechanics, but you can sell items belonging to enemies if you have a trade beacon covering it.  You could even build trade beacons across the whole map and sell anything you like.

[Insert screenshot showing siege camp's artillery shells being available for sale in a trade window.]

Alistaire: This is why insect hives are easily exploitable.
