Perhaps I'm a tad jaded from having worked as a programmer and studied (and done) interface design, but I felt that assigning the owner of a bed would be more in the windows tradition if it could be done through a pop-up menu accessed by right clicking the bed.  Now that someone told me that there's another way to do it, I'll use that, but just sayin'.

Thank you, but this is only half the answer.

What specific items affect the beauty of a room, environment, etc?

What specific things can be done to increase/decrease a room's beauty?  An environment's?  Specifically, how much does adding or changing an item affect said beauty?

Is this in the wiki somewhere?

If not, can I contact the game developer, sign a Non-Disclosure agreement, look at the source code (I have a bachelor's degree in computer science am mentally gifted and can easily read source code even in computer languages I'm not familiar with (before getting struck with Crohn's disease, I was a C/C++ hacker), and PUT IT INTO the wiki?

OK, I'll bite.

I've been looking for a couple of hours off and on now, and I can't find a place in the wiki (or these forums) that has anything on what a player can do to affect the beauty of his colony.

Specifically, when I play the game, I keep getting debuffs that say "awful barrack," "ugly environment" and the like.  Mind you, if I didn't have a sense of humor, it would seem an awful lot to me like somebody wrote the game to pile the same things on the colonists over and over again, but I digress.

I couldn't find anyplace where it said what makes an environment ugly or not.  There were vague references in the forum to golden grand statues, but nothing really helpful.

So...where do I look?  And forgive me if I'm a little too green, but, because I think the concept of a wiki is that users like me can edit it, and I used to do stupid things like edit novels for publishing houses, I just might be stupid enough to try and expand the wiki--if nothing else, adding a few hyperlinks--before I'm done.

So...where to find the info?

I ran into something related.

Two of my fudging colonists had a wedding, so I built them their own personal fudging barrack for two, complete with a double fudging bed so that they could fudge each other.

Now this is a minor interface bug, but there was no direct way to assign ownership of the fudging bed to the little fudgers.  I ended up toggling the medical bit on their old beds.  Man!  Some people just don't want to fudge!

Ohhhh...I'm starting to LIKE that word...

General Discussion / Re: Introduce yourself!

I'm Jeff.  I'm a moron with a Mensa card.  I have a bachelor's degree in computer science from RIT (a top-10 school), a 30000-word vocabulary (think "Shakespear") and...Crohn's Disease, which is a big reason why I don't have a job right now, I have disability income...

...which makes things more frustrating for me to deal with.  You don't know how many times I've wished I could get my hands on the source code to this thing--and I'm only just starting to learn how to play it.

Right now I'm trying to discover the documentation on the beauty system in the wiki.  I'm sure it's there, and I'm also sure that when I find it I'm going to be asking for a few hyperlinks so that other people can find it more easily than I could.

...and if I have to write that part of the wiki myself...well...you guys got an NDA handy?

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?

A young man who lives near where I do.  He had just given me a truckload of not-so-healthy old computers and I'd cured the ills of a few of them.  I do more than program.  As I type this message, I'm watching over a game of Rimworld on an HP DV-9700 that I bought on ebay, "not working--for parts or repair" and put back together with parts lying around the place where I live.  I'm going to try to filp a couple of similar machines.  Wish me luck.

-What's your favorite other game?

An old 4X called "Space Empires III."  This took over for the original 4x, "Reach for the Stars," when I traded my Commodore 64 in for an IBM PC.

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?

For me or my opponent?  I've lived through both at the chess board.

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?

I like the Banana Nut flavor of Sunbelt Bakery.  It's so much like me--cheap and obscure but great value!

And/or put up ridiculous pictures, as you see fit.

I can post a short story or two.

Hemmingway said that you can tell a story in six words.  I can do it in five:

More specifically, when you find artifacts as part of ancient danger, how do you get the artifacts out of the danger room and into your colonists' hands so that they can be used in some meaningful way?
