So can tainted gear not be sold? (T shirts, vest ect) And if not is there a mod that won't hurt a current saved game that simply allows me to sell them?

Last I checked,no,you cannot sell tainted apparel.
Since tainted gear is nearly worthless anyway, you just could
- an outdoor dump-stockpile for tainted stuff, so it can rot away.
- use a mod the salvage/recycle that cloth to get some resources back. Mend&Recycle or Vegetalbe garden textile.
And most mod are safe to be added to a current safegame. But removing from a safegame is a different thing.
