If boars can be trained to haul....
Can we get monkeys trained to clean?

It would be really nice, if you could change the color of the zones.

For example, I use red zones for my storage, green zones for my growing zones and blue zones for my coolers. It's really annoying, if you have to set up and delete 10 zones, until you got the color, you wanted.
It has to do something with beauty. I don't want to have a colony with zones in 10 different colors.

Also this would be awesome!

Here is a couple Cheap Ideas [A13]:

1) put zone expansion button directly in the selected zones menu for easier access
2) colonist turn lights off in their rooms before bed
3) new back stories that improve and focus on hauling and cleaning attributes.
4) setup turrets to be reinstall able ( they are expensive!)
5) reduce component cost on advanced research bench ( easy to clear a map of components before unlocking component workbench.)
6) Build-able dirt walls for that stone age hut feeling
7) Refrigeration racks (same as weapon racks but cold as ice)
8) thief ( special event where a seemingly normal visitor steals something and runs away with it)
9) Fans ( Cheaper variant of the AC unit but installs like a heater)

Ideas / Roomba's debut
April 15, 2016, 09:53:23 PM
A simple Idea here which can probably be done quite quickly reusing some animal mechanics?

works in a few parts

1) high tech research - miniature robotics
- allows construction of the robitcs work bench
2) Robotics Workbench
- allows bills for 3 kinds of robots
3) Roomba's
- House cleaner variant which cleans the home area
- Fire Fighter variant which puts out fires and rescues colonists in the home area
- police drone variant which is essentially a patrolling security turret.

Notes:
- must return to the work bench for recharge every 8 hours.
- recharging cost a lot of power within a short period of time
- They initially cost a large number of components
- they break down from time to time and require additional components
- special event affect them (ie. solar flare, lightning strikes, etc)

Why this would be good:
cleaner bases and painless fire fighting and strong anti-raiders... but at a significant cost in research time, valuable metals and components plus expensive to run with power.
not easy to obtain early level so it should be easy to balance.

let me know what you guys think.

Ideas / Configurable start as a story element
April 11, 2016, 09:46:03 PM
The idea is to give the game a little extra story background that the player gets to choose.
The choice impacts how the game starts off.

The Idea is simply an option during site selection.
choose 1 of 3 choices.

1) Planned colonization - large pod drops in the shape of a octagon made of metal walls 1 door. contains a lots of supplies inside and 5 random colonists. you choose drop location.

2) Planned evacuation - Classic Start except you get to choose where your initial survivors land and the first few drop pods land noticeably closer.

3) Crash Landing - Classic start. random drop 3 survivors limited supplies.
