General Discussion / Colonists Not Happy
March 07, 2014, 05:11:11 PM
I don't know if its the current build or I just started to suck more but I cant even get to 5 colonists now without them freaking out and leaving.  I have individual covered living quarters, plenty of food and other things but I cant keep them happy.  If they mine too much they freak, if they haul too much they freak.  The hauler always sees dead bodies because you cant blow them up anymore.  I have tried three times on the current build and every game ends in disaster.

Is there a specific series of things you need to build in order to keep them happy?  I always start with food and a table for them to eat followed by a group sleeping house followed by individual sleeping areas.

So 11 to 12 colonists is the limit currently?

Sadly, my saved games don't seem to work in the new build.  When I click on "load", the colors get generic (they seem to go to a 16-bit color scheme) and loading box comes up but it locks up after that.  I have to alt-tab to get out and shut it down.  I attached a screenshot of it.

I'll start a new colony and see how things go when it gets big and let you know if the same thing happens in this build.

Thanks for your replies.

I have two or three debris piles.  I cant seem to find anything that looks like a save game file.  Can you point me to the file location so I can attach it?

I have a good game that I have been playing for a little while.  I am on day 270 with a very large base and 12 colonists.  I have move silver than I need so I have not been collecting the fallen weapons from raiders.  I get attacked so often and by so many raiders that there are bodies and weapons all over the entrance to my base.

Recently the game has begun to float between running normal for a few seconds and then running extremely slow for 30 to 60 seconds.  By slow I mean I go get a sandwich and come back and my colonists have only moved 2 inches across the screen.  I have a rocking PC with 12 gigs of ram, an Nvidia 670 video card and an intel i7 975 extreme cpu.  I am also running the game on dual raptor HD's that are raided into one faster drive.

I am guessing my issue is due to the large number of items in the world that need to be tracked.  I would guess I have between 30 to 50 bodies plus that same number of weapons just laying around out in the world, then I have about 20 hoppers with weapons filled inside my base.  Four launchpads full of supplies plus lots of slag in zones from all the battles I have fought.  Have I reached the end of what the game is capable of processing at this stage of development?

General Discussion / Preventing cave-ins

If I am mining into the rock and every 5 or so squares I drop a wall section, will that be enough to keep the ceiling from falling down and crushing stuff?  I was trying to build a big room to place my hydroponics, paste dispensers and tables and chairs to have a one stop, farm, eat and socialize room.  I am unclear how to brace a ceiling or if it can even be done at this stage of the game.

If anyone has an image of a base with ceiling braces, I would love to see it.

Its the boomrats I hate the most.  I always have to drop everything to find where the little sucker is at, who he is targeting and then deploy a soldier to kill it.  I ignored one once and lost a colonist I really liked.

When Raiders appear, the game tells you that you can attack them now or wait for them to come to you.  Seems coming to you is the better option since you can have defenses.  Is there a reason I am missing for wanting to attack them early?

General Discussion / Graves
February 18, 2014, 03:06:53 PM
One game I played I placed the graves a good distance away from the dump and they were ever used.  The next game I placed them right next to the dump and they were used.  Are they supposed to be placed NEXT to the dump or should they be IN the dump so you dont have a bunch of bodies laying around there?

Ideas / Social Activities
February 18, 2014, 02:50:30 PM
I would like to see some content focused on social interaction.  Would be nice if they did more than work all day.

1. Bar or pub materials to build a hangout room
2. Gym to keep your peeps fit
3. Restaurant for grabbing better food, maybe from hydroponics?
4. Movie room so they could pop in and see a show

You can put a priority on your hoppers?  I had no idea.

I dont think I understand the food paste machine.  Does it draw food from the stockpile or do you have to have hoppers right beside it?  I always put hoppers right next to it for food, do I not have to do this?  Do you put hoppers in the stockpile area for this machine?  Do you even need hoppers?  The hopper says it works for this and turrets but I saw no purpose to having them by turrets yet.

General Discussion / The Blight
February 18, 2014, 11:40:52 AM
Oh My Liver!  The Blight!!!

My second colony, things going well, hit with the blight.  I have plenty of food so no big deal.  Fields are almost regrown, BAM, hit with the blight again.  Oh no, this will be close...  Almost there....  BAM, Blight hits me again, everyone starves or goes mad.

Please tell me the blight doesnt effect hydroponics...
