Here's something I wrote. Better check it for grammer and typos, since I'm not a native speaker.

<li>With my one ear I could make out that one distress signal we never want to hear;</li>
<li>"MAD BOOMRAT!"</li>
<li>A loud bang sounded far off.</li>
<li>with my pistol in hand, and the coms eerily silent, I opened the colony door.</li>
<li>The entire plain was on fire.</li>
<li>Looking far away, I saw the fire slowly crawling towards the raiders' base.</li>
<li>As the fires reached their cannons, 2 horrible explosions burned at my eyes</li>
<li>I was never as happy to feel the rain pour, as that night.</li>
<li>I never did find David's body, </li>
<li>but as soon as I could, I built a statue in his honour.</li>

Ideas / Splash Screens

I'm thinking about something like a flavour for the victory and losing messages.
For instance, when dying in a desert biome, the message should show some kind of visualization, like this mockup:


With a different splash screen for each biome.
The victory (space ship) screen should probably be the same whatever biome you choose.

Mods / [Idea] Building/rock eating fauna

Just a thought, I thought I should share with you guys;
Could we add a locust type animal that will eat metal/stone walls?
Maybe make an event to cause a "Rockroach" to come and eat holes through your stone walls, or even burrow inside your cave and cause cave-ins.
Same with a metal variation, a "Slugroach" or something.

Maybe it will leave stones/metal slugs in its wake, so it's not a total disaster.

Yeah that's an awesome idea! Btw welcome to the forums Elerd, way to make a stomping impact! I make alot of different wall types, all unreleased. I considered recolorations, but nothing like this. Could have a whole mod set of different pretty walls.  This wouldn't work for painting so much, as the same painting would be repeated constantly. But maybe a wall type where every section of the wall has a different picture?

Thanks for the warm welcome :) I've been lurking for a few weeks, but thought I'd give my 2 cents.
Decorative walls from different materials could be a nice addition. The painting problem will probably have to wait for a future release, since right now it will bug out when rotated, as mrofa said.

Though instead of making them more beautiful than plants how about making plants a wee bit more beautiful and the statues slightly lower?

I'm working on a mod based on what mrofa posted before. I'm still not sure what the beauty possibilities are (in mrofa's mod, the statue has a <beauty>Gorgeous</beauty> statement), so I'll have to look into that later.

A simpler solution would be to make the walls themselves a type of decorative wall (like DF).
Made a mockup of what I was thinking

So i did you a example mod so you can learn and make more of them. Download it here
Added also a .psb file so you know how to resize it and generaly where to palce it.

That'll make it a lot easier for me to add new statues.

That's mainly what I thought. But how would you remove the need to water the pot? I think it's hardcoded.

I was thinking about having more decorations and since I'm not much of a modder, I tried my best to mock up a statue. I don't know exactly how to add this to the game, or what would be the stats and requirments for it, but I thought maybe some of you will have some idea what to do with this.
