Ideas / Re: HYDROPONIC SOLAR FLARES

But without hydroponics, the crops grow really slow, and can be wiped out by blights. Not to mention being so damned slow. It's like a lose-lose situation.

Devilstrand isn't affected by blights (or at least my devilstrand isn't affected by blights... should ask Tynan about that...) so it's just a slower guaranteed harvest, without the fear of flares.

That's why you should plant devilstrand and xerigium on dirt [in a walled off area outside] and just use sunlamps & heaters. This way, if a flare hits you basically only lose the growing time, and to replace the heater, all you do is place some campfires inside and wait for the flare to pass. Not to mention that you really only spend energy on the sunlamp + heater(s), not the hydroponics tables.

Hydroponics indoors should, imo, be used for quick crops like rice/potatoes/berries and maybe hops. So when flares actually happen, you dont even lose much, comparatively.

I'm still wondering who makes the TV program.
Well considering that there's no FTL methods and that you've crashed on what is deemed a rimworld. I'd say that it's just transmissions that were broadcasted by other planets years ago. (Or for those more advanced worlds closer to your currently occupied planet, months?)

Firefly re-runs?!  :o

Well, here's a few, and I apologize for any repeats XD

Hot Springs, using geothermal vents - why not make us choose between power or bathing facilities?
Board Games/Cards, from traders (with durability)
Movies, from traders (with durability) - what else are you going to watch on the TVs on a Rim World? Hope there's an outlander town that broadcasts sitcoms?
Marbles, Jacks, Tiddly-winks
Drinking games - this would be interesting :)
Sparring - either with fists or wooden training swords
Jogging
Feeding wild animals berries/potatoes
Mischief/Pranking - grafiti near colonist beds/dining areas/relaxation areas (cleanable), tampering with work stations (fixable) - would possibly give negative fun to colonists on the receiving end ;)
Snacking - chocolate (which is already added), popcorn (for watching movies?), potato chips, raisins (dried berries, i guess)
Benches - for variety in seating (aside from stools and armchairs), could also relax outside on benches and 'enjoy the scenery'
Tequila - There's already agaves... why not? :D

Basically as the title says, if you place a hydroponics blueprint over some chunks the builder doesn't first haul away the chunks from the area, but just grabs the steel and starts building the table. The chunks underneath the table area just disappear. I've tested for both stone chunks and slag chunks and even items such as wood/plasteel/bionic legs/hearts and only the chunks are deleted, the other items are fine. And, as far as I know, it's only hydroponics tables that have this issue.

I'm sorry if this was reported already, but I didn't see anything when I did the search.

General Discussion / Re: Treating infections

Does anyone have some numbers on what medicines and bedrest does in the case of diseases?
Because I've never noticed any bad effects from just treating a colonist (without medicine) when the message pops up and then let them run off and do their thing until the next message pops up.

Medicine, as far as I've seen, has no affect on treatment of sicknesses (infections, the flu, etc.). The time until next treatment seems to be dependent on the sickness itself (sleeping sickness ~2.6 days, infections ~0.8 days).

Bed rest, though, does have an affect on the immunity development rate (as see in the immunity gain speed trait/status/thing) with normal beds (royal or otherwise) multiplying the immunity gain speed by 110%, regardless of them being designated medical or not. Hospital beds, however, multiply the immunity gain speed by 114%. (I've not really tested if material has an affect on this but I want to say probably not :P)

Is this just me (and Randy), or winter tends to have fewer events, and certainly fewer raids ? The second winter is coming to an end, and I think I only had 1 raid (siege) during that time.

Yeah, I see fewer events happening during the winter months (Cassandra) as well (in Tundras and Boreals at least). I think it's because of the snow/sub 30C temperatures, but who knows the real reason.

Normal picks do 80 damage to stone for each hit, while Pneumatic picks do 96 damage to stone for each hit. That's what the 20% more efficient thing applies.

If you're looking at hits per second or whatever that's solely based on your colonist's mining speed stat on the character sheet :P

Yes it is more beneficial to stay in bed all day. There is an immunity gain speed stat on the colonist's character sheet now and that gets boosted by 110%, iirc, if they are in bed.
