Or maybe have them do crazy stuff like hiding in their rooms because they dislike their bedroom, or because they decided to eat a raw human corpse they go on a food binge and dig in for seconds.
"You want me to live in THIS room? YOU WANT ME TO SLEEP IN A 2 sq. m. COFFIN? ...Fine! I WILL LIVE IN THIS FREAKING ROOM. OH WHAT IS THAT? A RAID? NO, I'M GOING TO LIVE IM MY 2 sq. m. ROOM AS YOU TOLD ME. GO KILL YOUSELF."
I do stuff like that when I have mental breakdowns.

Ideas / Re: Your Cheapest Ideas

Ah, sometimes I forget it's rimworld, and sniper rifles have lorger range than miniguns. I'd say the solution would be to bump up charge lance's range up to 45, it's basically a sniper rifle anyway.
In any case, that would at least be more challenging than "wait for them to enter killbox, then go deal with the centipedes". Right now scythers have no purpose because they come alone and get overwhelmed by the defences, even if it's just a line of colonists.

Make is so that scythers stay with the centepedes, they waste their tactical advantage by coming in two waves.

Sappers that get a lucky shot with a rocket launcher and oneshot half of your colony.

U can't. Taming infestations would be dope, they were created as a weapon after all.

I usually send in everything that is willing to fight for food, melee is a numbers game. If someone looses limbs in battle, I just cook them, unless it's a beast of burden or a bonded animal. Muffalos and dromedaries are king if they are in the area, you can get one on day two and watch the despair on the face of that one asshole with a shiv that comes later. Dogs are also good if you have a decent amount, they are faster then farm animals. Wargs suck, regular dogs are almost as good but a lot easier to train. Pigs are where it's at for defence, they reproduce fast, easy to train, decent health and dps, not to mention they are good haulers and meat. Bomalopes sound !fun!, I've never tried them. They take their sweet time to reproduce though, so if you want to go explosive, I'd suggest using boomrats instead or taming them once you see them. Should probably keep them in a safe room. Big cats are really strong, and more importantly, really fast, the right tool to catch raiders on the run or save colonists fast. Other animals with wilderness of 50-ish like boars and rams are good early on, but I'd not recommend to breed them to fight.

First one, store 340 meals in three tiles without any need of refrigeration.
This is going to get fixed so fast now...

It kinda makes sense, until you think about what people would do.
"-So... Where did that prisoner go?
-Idk. We sent him to that guy who lives all by himself and provides us with organs... And hats. Pure psychopath, that guy."

Not people who watched Firefly. If you see a good doctor, there is no such luxury as "rescuing", kidnapping is your only choice.
-I know how your hat was made.
-Burn that witch!

Keep in mind if these flowers in large enough quantities provide an insane +15 beautiful environment boost, really good for working places like kitchen. Late game it's better to use sculptures though.

General Discussion / Re: Mortars: Useful or not?
January 13, 2017, 03:05:37 AM
Right now there are two legit uses for them.
First, you fire a few incendiary rounds at an enemy siege. If there is no rain, the siegers get overwhelmed with the amount of fire, especially if you do it while they sleep. The amount of fire one round can create is just insane.
Second, you always have your HE mortars all loaded, and when the raid arrives, you fire them all. You just need one guy to do it. Most will miss, but if just one round hits, the damage it can do is huge, especially if there are a lot of people.

IMO, mortars and grenades should have two types of explosions - the one they have right now and a much bigger shrapnel one, dealing less damage over a large radius. It should be sharp damage, so that armor can negate it. To balance it, i think any type of cover has to stop it, and pawns run to cover as soon as they know they are being fired upon. That would allow tactics such as "we close in on them while they are pinned down by our artillery strike".

And we need direct fire artillery - kinda like inferno cannons, but stationary, to give raiders tools to break defences. Seriously, breaking a granite wall BY HAND? That would also justify putting embrasures into the game, as raiders would see that you have stone walls and go bring artillery.

Incendiary rounds should scatter small fires over a large radius, so that all fires can spread, giving a huge fire really fast. To balance it, I say different objects should take different amounts of time to ignite and to put down fire on them, say grass is really easy, but a tree or a wall is harder. That would make incendiary rounds king in dense forests and jungles, like they are in reality.

General Discussion / Re: Solar vs wind power
January 13, 2017, 01:10:32 AM
Wind is better because it's smoother and less affected by events, however you need to chop trees around it, and they take a lot more space. I'd say wind is better, but solar is "cheaper". I'm not talking about production costs, you need to surround your power generation with walls, and you need a lot more walls for wind turbines. However you can use empty space that wind turbines require for plants and even solar panels.

General Discussion / Re: Introduce yourself!

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
Scott Manley, great youtuber on space-related gaming.
-What's your favorite other game?
Europa Universalis 4.
-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?
It's finals tomorrow.
-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?
Beef.

Specialize on killboxes and defence in general, spend most of the game in god mode on a clear map.

Right now sleeping enemies won't get up when you move around them. As a good builder can build a room in like five secons, you can build a wooden room around someone and set it on fire while they sleep, or do some other crazy shit like farm siegers for loot that comes down from the skies every day. Works especially well against thrumbos, since there are few of them and the reward is so great. They are basically free stuff right now. It shouldn't work unless the enemy is drunk or something, or at least have a percentage of agroing them.

Update.
Turns out steel walls burn. Use them for the ignition chamber, they give as good of a fire as anything else, and they burn for ages, meaning the'll still be intact when you put the fire down.
