Hi all, just managed to extricate myself from the game for a while - popped in to say hello with a few simple suggestions for consideration :)

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
I've been following this game for a little over a year now, but didn't actually purchase it until this Christmas.  I've watched YT videos, but never really grasped just how addicting this game would be until I finally purchased it.  RimWorld v.A16 will be the first version of the game I'll directly experience.

-What's your favorite other game?
This is always a tough question, and one that I usually break into two parts: Favorite Console Game (Final Fantasy 3 (SNES USA)) and Favorite PC game (Arcanum).  I suppose if pressed into a corner and asked for my all-time favorite game... it would be Super Mario Bros 3 for the NES.

Hello everyone,
John here and I wanted to say hi, also I really, really like Rimworld and I am getting used to XML (somewhat), I have a better understanding of C#,C++,Unity. Xml seems easy so far, but I am trying to grasp how the methods and logical statements are called and how Unity (C#/Java) interacts with Xml. If anyone would like to help me out with this, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone!

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
I knew of DF probably about 4 years ago, but it's pretty prohibitive to get into. I bought Prison Architect early in Early Access, tried it out a bit, before it was how it is today, and didn't touch it again. Fast forward to now, RimWorld becomes a Steam top seller the week it's put into Steam EA, but I don't want to buy it because of the price. What if I don't like it? After all, I could never get in to DF or PA or Banished. Just after the new year, after not buying anything on the Winter Sale (bought a few copies of To the Moon to give to friends, but nothing I really wanted), I see a friend playing RimWorld quite literally all the time. Watched CohhCarnage's videos, and a few from NorthernLion, and decided to try it out. Merry Christmas to me. I'm terrible at it, but it's so much fun. Each colony I make lasts longer and longer (I've made 3 or 4 in 10 hours, that's how bad I am), but I have this drive to be as good/cool as the screenshots and videos I see online.

-What's your favorite other game?
Of all time: Betamania IIDX
Currently: Overwatch, WoW

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?
I'm terrible at most video games. I can pubstomp in Overwatch with friends, and I used to pubstomp in TF2, but when it comes to Civ, I can't win. Binding of Isaac? More like Binding of getting to floor 3 and then losing. Starcraft? Forever low bronze. League/Dota? Aside that I feel Mobas have inherent design flaws, I'll feed all day, erryday.

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?
Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds are by far the best.

-Misc.
3/4ths Chinese, 1/4th German, from Northern Arizona. Going back to school (Community College) for IT, and going to dabble in some game design courses, to see how I like it. I like gaming communities, so I'll probably frequent these, the Steam forums, and Reddit a lot, but I probably won't be able to engage in any meaningful way.

itzrabiid

Hey all, I've been in this community for a while now but i don't think i have actually introduced myself. Anyway, I'm Ryan from New Zealand. I'm a full time painter currently but by July this year i'll officially be in basic training for the NZ Army. :D

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
I came across a youtube video and i instantly liked the idea of the game. I've been playing on and off since.

-What's your favorite other game?
Crusader Kings 2. Hands down.

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?
Well, I never try and hide the fact that i suck majorly at 99% of the games i play. really enjoyed playing CSGO with my friends a couple years back but i was always being carried. Never made it past Silver 4. I Cri

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?
Plain old Wheatbix. (They have that in other countries, right?)

CanadianBacon

Hello! Name's Canadian bacon.
-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
I purchased a copy of prison architect a WHILE back when it was still in early access, and found that I enjoyed that style of game quite a bit. Then, a little more recently (around last summer) I picked up Factorio and loved the game so much I got over 12 hours of game play in a little under 3 days. Eventually, Rimworld popped up in my suggested on steam and I purchased it through the Ludeon website.
-What's your favorite other game?
While I don't really have one singular favorite I have an unranked top 7: Borderlands 2, Civ 5/6, MSGV, Terraria, Enter the Gungeon, Skyrim, and Factorio.
-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?
One time I died during a Dark Souls boss fight by rolling off the arena and dying. :/
-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?
TBH my favorite is Cocoa Crispies, but I've been eating that Special K cereal with the chocolate in it and I find that pretty great too.

Also since I like birds so much here's a zebra dove:

Wraithling

Hello guys and greetings from South East Asia!

I've been using a lot of mods from this forum made by all the talented modders here. Keep up the good work modders! The mods which I perceive to be essential are sometimes the most simple mods, like MadSkills which prevent skill degradation (come on Tynan, don't take away what I grinded so hard for!), and DeadMansClothing which removes the 'D' on looted clothes from corpses (imho, it makes no sense in my survivalist-mentality colony).

I look forward to contribute in any small way I can and to ask  a lot of dumb questions.  :)

RobsonAlquimista

Hello guys! My name is Robson as you all can see and I am from Brazil. I have bought the game awhile ago and the past few days I started messing around the game files to discovery how to make a mod, it´s have been a really good adventure, as I am starting to learn how to program too.
It´s a pitty that I don´t have much time to focus more on it,... but I am finishing a very basic mod and I will be posting my first mod for a game ever soon.

I speak little english so... expect a bunch of "syntaxe" error and spelling errors here... ???

Best regards.

TheSolInvictus

Hi, my names Sol and its a pleasure to join yet another Forum  ;D

-What introduced you to RimWorld?
Searched for games similiar to DF/Gnomoria etc. and found it and instantly fell in love with it.

-What's your favorite other game?
Age of Empires II. It was what made me a Gamer and I still can't stop playing xD

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?
Call me boring but my favored Breakfast Cerreal are Weetabix.

Ukas

Hey all, it's Ukas from Finland. Started to play Rimworld just when A15 arrived, and I have to say it's definitely one of the best games I've played, and I've been playing games from the 80s.

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?

I got curious about this, since I liked Prison Architect.

-What's your favorite other game?

Jagged Alliance 2, definitely. Then XCOM, both 1994 and 2012 versions.

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?

Well, I tell you my gaming hours in Steam are embarrassing. When I wake up, I turn on my laptop, and keep it running till I go to sleep. Usually, when I turn on my computer I also load the game I'm playing and it runs on background. Steam records every second, so like at the moment I have probably over 1000 hours in RImworld - while I have actually played "only" like 200 lol

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?

Wouldn't know, I have coffee, yoghurt and ham on rye bread every morning. Did you know, that JH Kellogg, inventor of breakfast cereals wanted to create food, that would keep people from having casual sex?

PFC Calico

Hi! I go by the alias of PFC Calico or just Calico. I plan to make you-tube videos (along with every other tom dick & harry) as well as my own unity based 2d top down tile based game.

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?

I have always enjoyed management games starting from transport tycoon, railroad tycoon, civ, startopia, settlers, banished etc etc. eventually i came across prison architect (i know different studio) and loved it. When I saw RimWorld i assumed the same as many other people have by just looking at the visuals. but as we all know not to judge a book by its cover! I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a different developer and jumped right in.

-What's your favorite other game?

Depends on genre as i have roughly 136 games on steam then it kinda looks like this:

turn based strategy - civ series
rts - C&C generals
fps - bf series
3ps - world of warships
rpg - fallout series (i played the original fallout when it released in 1995)
management game - rimworld (i dont play prison architect anymore due to fact that there are only so many times you can build a prison without working out optimal meta)

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?

being recorded "flying" a helicopter in bf2 (i was physically moving with the direction of the chopper and jumped out of my chair as i crashed)  and having that video posted on FB.

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?

Kellogg's coco pops: what other cereal can you make chocolate milkshake with when you run out of powder?

Well, I got this game through Steam on by birthday, since I don't like asking people for stuff or spread around wish lists regardless of who and how many times people keep asking for them...I just want friends and family to show up and have a good time, okay? Anywho, people that know me know the safest fallback which is my Steam wish list, and I put this gem on there a few months back.

I really enjoyed the X-Universe (from X: Beyond the Frontier all the way down to X3: Albian Prelude, hated the last one though), loved Space Station 17 on the BEYOND engine, was a LOT of fun. I'm just not much of a multiplayer gamer, but when I do it's role playing (played Artemis Bridge Simulator in TSN as Michael Seer for over a year). But I really loved the idea behind Space Station 17, where one could procedurally create different kind of walls depending on what component one would add to the tile and what tool was used. The objects in the world were more than just tiles with logic, or so it felt. Battlecruiser 3000 A.D is a more acquired taste, but more Star Trek than any other game even Paramount Pictures could roll out at the time (and still haven't to this day...).

The problem I'm having these days is that we have the technology to switch and realistically go from small scale, local sit-on-a-chair-eat-your-dinner and heating-a-room-mechanics to the procedural formation of galaxies and even dimensions, covering everything in between from plant design to interstellar politics and war for the last 2 decades, and somehow we don't see that realized. But that's just my opinion on the game industry...and I went off on a rant, I apologize (but still feel the need not to remove it from this post) ;-)

My most embarrassing moment(s) are along the lines of starting a new game (like this one), and being so focused on getting say a room up, and technology developed, that I completely forget 'ow ya, my colonists need food...' whilst playing in the middle of nowhere on an ice sheet on a min-temp planet without and no heating...

Okay that wasn't true, that's just my most recent 'accomplishment'. My most embarrassing game-related story isn't a picture of me next to a toilet stoned out of my mind halfway between conscious and stuck in laughter, which I hear is still roaming the internet (although I can't seem to find it... If anybody feels interested in looking, LAN-party, Verkeerspark Assen, Netherlands. I think it was 2005 or so).
I guess it would have to be too eager to post a suggestion not realizing that the feature I'm requesting is already in the game, I just couldn't find it. Not as sensational, but I concider that a lot more embarrassing than passing out next to a toilet at a LAN-party with over 2000 people there... Those posts are generally seen a lot more people (or at least on Steam games they tend to be).

I prefer high-fibre breakfast, but when it comes to cereal I like it sweet and crunchy, so I rarely eat cereal for breakfast. Usually, if I have breakfast at all, it's bread, and depending on what's still viable, an egg or salad... Usually just coffee.

As for my ridiculous picture, well, you can try and find the previously mentioned, or maybe you can find my Steam profile and look something up there. Though not pictures of me, I've had that account for over a decade, a decent amount of reviews written, a LOT of screenshots and appropriate captions, some of which serious bug reports, other I find hilarious, might be worth a chuckle. Same handle as I use here.
