General Discussion / My sculptor has SUCH an ego...
July 19, 2015, 08:44:03 PM
I've got one of my colonists making art for the community, and this happened.

Jan 5th, Gert makes this:

The next day, he makes this:

It's gone to your head when you start making art, of yourself, making art, instead of everyone protecting the community from attacks. >.>

Rimworld...I swear.

Hi there, Ladies and Gentlemen! I've been meaning to write up a fun little story for you, and thought that now was the perfect time. I plan on doing 5 in game days per play session, and posting every other day, or every few days, depending on work.

Bit of background info, before we start:

Mods being used:

Story Teller, and Difficulty:

World name, seed, and location:

Our three main characters:

Snipe:

Joey:

Ceba:

Day 1

It is May 1st, Year 5500.

Three childhood friends are taking the trip they have saved up for, their entire lives. On a passenger shift heading out from Al Pacyeon III, disaster strikes.

Snipe! Joey! yelled Ceba. Are you two okay? he asked, as they crawled from the wreckage of their escape pods.

I-Im okay. Joey says, while patting himself down. He looks towards Snipe.

Im fine. she remarks, as she looks around. Where the fuck are we?

I dont know, Snipe. Ceba says, as he too looks around. We need to get our priorities straight, though. Who knows when rescue will come.

If. Snipe murmurs, trailing off.

Guys! Look at this! There are weapons, some food, and even some seeds in these boxes from the pods. If we play our cards right, we can totally make it through this! Joey exclaims.

Thats all well and good, but what can we do to survive? asks Ceba.

Well build a shelter against that mountain right there, and dig in. It will help us to stay warm. Lets move this stuff over there, and gather supplies. Snipe says, taking charge.

They hurry about, making use of what daylight they have.

----

It took them the entire of the first day, but atleast they had shelter.

Good night, guys. I know we can do this. Just remain hopeful. Joey says, as he lays down in the shelter.

Sure. Snipe whispers, as she settles in.

They wait a moment for Ceba to say something, before noticing his soft snores.

Guy can sleep anywhere, I swear. Atleast hell be rested in the morning. Whispers Joey. Good night.

Good night. whispers Snipe.

Day 2

The sun rises, and they quickly begin working. They have alot to get done today, and very little time to get it done.

They manage to clear the land for the stockpile, and begin working on the garden.

Any idea what these seeds are, Joey? asks Ceba.

Not a clue. It just has numbers on the boxes. We should probably plant both types, just in case one isnt edible.

Thats a good idea, Joe. Lets get to it.

The sun sets on day two. After a long day of work, there is little conversation to keep them up.

Day 3

The sun rises, and after a quick meal, they start cleaning the area in front of the gardens of debris, and move the items that need moving to the stockpile.

Look at all this stuff! Exclaims joey.

Yes, Joey, we can see the stuff. Is any of it useful? remarks Ceba, with a roll of his eyes.

Some of it, yes. I think I might be able to whip up a solar energy collector, if i can find a few other things. Ill go through the debris in the morning, and see what I can find. We can take the batteries from the pods, and well have atleast a little bit of power. Enough for a light, atleast.

Oh god, I hope so. Were going to need heat come winter. Its may, and its already chilly out.

-----

They work on the Supply room, till sundown. Quick to sleep, very little is said but Good night.

Day 4

You know, if were going to be here a while, we should probably name this place Snipe mentions, over the morning meal.

You really think so, Snipe? Joey asks.

I dont see why not. It certainly cant hurt. She says.

I say go for it. Ceba offers, as he brushes crumbs off him.

(All the points to anyone that figures out the name based easter egg! I will even give you a cameo in the form of the first person to join the group, after the correct answer is given.)

How about Csnak Meggyilkoltk? Snipe says

The hell does that mean? Joey asks.

Its from a story I once heard as a child. It was about a group of travelers that began a town. It was very adventurous, from what I remember. She says, as she laces up her boots.

Did it have a happy ending? He asks

Honestly...I dont remember.

And thus Day 4 begins.

They quickly throw together the Supply Room as they call it, and call it a day after moving some items around.

As night falls, unbeknownst to our travelers, a group of traders from Blacksmiths Borough arrive in the night. Looks like they arent quite as alone as they thought

Day 5

Snipe rises early, and moves the last bit of steel from the scrapped escape pods, before moving back to the front room. While waiting for the others to wake up, she outlines what she thinks they need to mine out.

The discovery once daylight hits that they arent alone on this planet is shocking. They get information from them, and learn that the other tribes arent quite a friendly, and that a few might even be dangerous.

After a bit of friendly conversation, the traders leave, and work finally begins.

As the day ends, a good bit of mining has been completed. The next day should see more work done.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let me know what you guys think! New additions to the story will be both added to the main post, and posted separately in this thread so that it is updated. Feel free to leave feedback, and try and figure out the name easter egg!
-----------------------

Day 6

As the sun rises, our group of travelers get ready for their day.

Guys, while you do some mining, im going to work on building a solar energy collector. I think weve got enough stuff. joey mentions, as they leave the room.

Sounds good to me, man. If you need help, give a yell. Snipe responds.

As the day winds down, the work on the solar panel is completed, and a battery system is placed.

You know, guys, I was going through the stuff, and I think i can make a wind turbine too, as a back up. Wed need more steel, but I think I can do it. Joey says, and they lay down for the night.

Well see what we can do, Joe. Thanks for what youve managed so far, though. Dont know where wed be without you. Ceba says.

No problem. Good night, guys. Joey remarks.

Good night.
Night

Day 7

As the day begins, everyone rushes to do what needs to be done.

Working quickly, and together, they manage to mine out what is left, and begin working on making rooms, a kitchen, and a food storage area.

Hey Joe! If we stick one of our extra guns on a tripod, and set up some sort of motion tracker, and a server, can we have an automatic turret?.. Ceba asks.

.....I love you! Joey exclaims, as he rushes off.

I guess thats a yes Ceba replies.

As the day ends, two beds have been made, and the rooms laid out.

Well get it all set up in the morning, guys. Snipe says.

Exactly! And we should have enough for a turbine. Ill see about setting one up in the morning. says joey.

Good night, guys.

Day 8

Our group rushes around, building the final bed, and setting up two lights.

Joey starts scoping out an area for a turbine, and decides that north of the solar panel is good enough.

As night falls, they settle in for the night.

Tomorrow is going to be a good day, guys, I can feel it. Joey remarks, as they head to bed.

Lets hope so, man. Ceba replies. See ya in the morning, guys.

Good night! Joey says.

Day 9

As the sun ris---What?

Guys, where is the sun? Is there an eclipse?? Joey may be freaking out a bit. We dont have the battery power saved up to run the turret all day with no sunlight. We need to get that turbine running, right now.

They rush around for a bit, trying to get everything situated.
Halfway through the day, power runs out.

I really hope this thing of yours works, man. If we get attacked today, were screwed. Good day my ass. Snipe says, passing by.

I cursed us. Joey says sadly, handing his head

As the loud hum from the turbine kicks in, the lights come back on!

You did it, man! Ceba yells in exaltation!

I just did what needed to be done, guys. But thank you. Joey answers.

Lets get to bed, guys, its late. I think Snipe replies.

Day 10

The sun still hasnt risen, the group begins mining out the area blocking the turbine. More wind means more power, of course.

The day is very productive, as they quickly throw together a table or two, and chairs for the dining area, and begin placing down an area to cook, and butcher animals.

As they day ends, the eclipse does as well. Looks like the morning will be bright after all

--------------------------------

Still no replies for the easter egg? Dx

Here is a hint...think of other games with Rimworld type of depth when it comes to freethinking AI.

Anyway guys, I've almost finished the next 5 days, and let me say, things are already getting hectic!

Will they make it?

Will they be rescued??

Find out next time! On Dragon! Ball! Z!....er....Rimworld. On Rimworld.

Ideas / Prisoners, NPCs, Organs, Atmosphere, and more!
October 14, 2014, 07:37:09 PM
Hi there! So, a bit of this was originally posted as a mod request, but it was suggested that I post them to the suggestion area as well, as they go here better:

1. Visitors get injured! I can't save them, without incurring the wrath of their faction, which seems really weird to me.  I'm not exactly a humanitarian, but I have ALOT of medkits. The option to heal them where they lay, or move them to the medical beds would be awesome. Perhaps by healing them, and letting them go, you even get a faction bonus?

2. Prisoners. I can't release them, as far as I know. It's either convince them to stay, harvest their organs, or flat out kill them. The option to release them wouldn't go unused, I assure you.

3. When I detain a lone traveler/visitor, their faction miraculously knowing, and becoming my enemy is ridiculous. If there were 2, and one managed to make a run for it, escaping off the map, I would completely understand that. If there isn't someone to witness it, their faction shouldn't know what happened. Perhaps instead of enemies, it's a reputation drop? If my tribe members kept going missing when they visited your camp, i'd be suspicious as well. But I wouldn't condemn you for it till I know what the issue is.

4. Organ harvesting from corpses. While naturally harvesting more than a few hours after they died wouldn't make sense, but within half a day, maybe more if kept on ice, and that would make sense.

5. Prisoner escapes. They try to attack, and escape. Sitting in a room, waiting to die, or be convinced to join is a bit weird. Especially with some of the back stories. Please fix? Dx

---------------------------

I did some more playing, and came up with a few more things that would be interesting, and make the gameplay more realistic/ or just more fun/random in general.

1. Atmosphere. It makes very little sense that every planet you crash on have a breathable atmosphere, ground that can handle crops, and good ole H2O.

Imagine if you crash land on a new rimworld, and the atmosphere contains only 50% the oxygen earth has? Permanent lethargy till you research and build, or buy, re-breather systems. This also opens up the possibility of building oxygen producing machines that fill connected buildings and whatnot, with oxygen, so you don't need to wear masks inside.

Or you crash land, hop out, and instantly start suffocating because the atmosphere is mostly methane.
(Perhaps keep this possibility to the higher challenge modes?)

All rain is acid rain, meaning metal items outside need constant repair after rain and storms.

The atmosphere is much thicker than your escape pods are meant for, and one of your three people burn up on entry.

There is alot that can be done with just this single idea, and I would love feedback on it.

2. Right now, when you buy a slave, they join your little group like a full member. I think there should be a choice given. They can be a full member, OR, they get stuck doing menial jobs. Cooking. Cleaning. Growing stuff? Make the slave trade a bit more realistic, since we get debuffs for selling prisoners into slavery.

3. New event! While mining, you uncover a pocket of poisonous gas. It floods the local area.

Any and all comments, suggestions, ideas, conjecture, and whatnot is welcome!

Been playing for a while, adding, and subtracting mods, but there are a few things bothering me that I am hoping someone much more skilled than myself, can address:

The option to heal them where they lay, or move them to the medical beds would be awesome. Perhaps by healing them, and letting them go, you even get a faction bonus?

Anyone have any other ideas for prisoners they would like to add below, or discuss? I am open for discussion!

General Discussion / I'm confused. >.>
October 08, 2014, 10:02:11 AM
Loaded up Alpha 7, set up my zones, started growing some plants, chopped down some wood, moved everything to stockpiles....Go to build, and I have no options for wood, stone, or log walls? Am I missing something here? It says I can build metal walls, but, that's not exactly something good to start with. I have over 1000 pieces of wood, and 800+ stone.

Help? :(
