Ideas / Low tech temperature control

This might be part of a bigger temperature overhaul (big rooms + fire is a "bit" broken combination), but with the addition of that new low tech cooling device, this might show up sooner.

Long story short, I feel colonists and animals should produce warmth, as seeking warmth in each other and dogs are probably the oldest methods to combat cold.

To avoid CPU overload in an attempt to track every entitys heat effect, this should only "switch on" while sleeping (as it's the most relevant then).

To rebalance low tech heating, pawns would get negative thoughts when sleeping in a room with fireplace (smoke etc.), you could avoid this by venting heat from separate "broiler room" with airvents.

Ideas / Renting a room: Temporary colonists

Hate to post a new topic for this, but this probably mounts slightly more work and tweaking than "your cheapest ideas" thread requires.

I've had this idea about Pirate merchants having in addition to slaves other people. These are not permanent additions to colony, but people searching a temporary hiding place for their extra planetary deeds. You would get these shady agents and crooks practically free or even get paid to house them, but after a season or so the heat would go down and they would leave. The catch? Changes are people looking after these scoundrels wouldn't just leave them be and hire a local mercenaries (=pirates) to attack your colony. The better the deal the higher change it triggers a raid and the more dangerous the raid.

You could either have them act as regular colonist for time being, or having them act as visitors or prisoners, who just eat and loiter at home region perhaps with option to make them soldiers just to move them away from harms way.

You would only get small or no pay in advance, the rest of the reward being paid after the person safely exit the area after the holiday period, maybe altered based on his condition and mood.
